Italian Lybian Askaris 1912-1942 at EUREKA - join me!
« on: September 12, 2012, 04:41:14 PM »
Hi, I just asked Nic Robson at Eureka to start an option for Italian Lybian askaris 1912-1942. They would be most useful for the Italo-Turkish war, the Italo-Senussite wars, the Italian war against Ethiopia and World War II (unless you are very picky, their uniforms did not change much). Very useful for Pulp as well.

You can find the info at http://eurekamin.com.au/index.php?cPath=87_88_89&sort=3a&page=3

and a sample image here. just scroll down the page:

Are you unhappy with Empress Miniature's products which already covers that era?

No, quite the contrary, I love them and I have the whole lot, but Empres makes only Erithrean Askaris, not the Lybian ones. Italy had plenty of Lybian troops, and while not as reliable and sturdy as the good old Eythreans, the Lybians would make a colourful addiction to any Italian colonial adventure. Have a look at the links, these guys wore a different hat and at least at the beginning also had a different uniform.

I had actually asked the guy who was running Anglian miniatures before he sold them off to Empress and he said he intended to cover all the Italian troops, the Lybians, the dubats, and so on, but since the ladies took over I think they are more interested in exploring new lines (see their recent ECW range) than in deepening what they already have

Might be a good idea to ask Paul Hicks about it : after all, he bears a certain responsibility in the putty-pushing aspect of that venture  :D

Dunno what the Empresses' plans are regarding the Abyssinian war range : it certainly was one of Nigel Higgins' pet projects before he sold Anglian to the ladies, but there may also be other, very down to earth considerations regarding the absence of recent releases. The Abyssinian war being a niche period, it may be simply be selling a lot less than more popular periods such as moderns or the Anglo-Zulu war.

Absolutely - I would have loved Anglian to do them but if they aren't going to do I am not going to whine! That's why I have started the Eureka thing..
