GW-list of The Hobbit minis (?)
« on: August 16, 2012, 06:20:05 AM »
Rumour nicked from TheOneRing Net (http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/08/10/60693-games-workshop-minatures-list-holds-hobbit-spoilers/)

http://pastebin.com/9EC3qw3b

If this is true GW is rewriting Middle Earth as it suits themselves.

I mean: Bofur riding a cold drake? Iron Hill boar riders?

Knowing them i don't think it is impossible but I feel myself fucking reeling at the thought.

I wouldn't take it too seriously, as it seems to be a fake.

But GW making hobbits riding dragons is an utter madness, still possible.  lol

Or was it a drake i.e. a male duck? :D

just am two cents

Bofur's not a hobbit, he's a dwarf.  ;)

And to be fair, it doesn't say 'riding' a dragon, but 'on' a dragon - having slain one, maybe?

The worst part of the list for me is that they'll all be Shitecast.   :'(

It wouldn't suprise me what they come up with, there warhammer monsters get more ridiculous as the years go on.  The finecast really bothers me though.

Most of the comments poo-poo the list as hokum, there's even 'insider' knowledge  lol

I don't think they'll go too far out from the films, they did rather well with the first lot.

This list isn't real... is it? is it?!
If it is, they have screwed up the whole storyline of the book!
Well, I suppose it isn't real, since I think there are far too many boxes coming out. During the LOTR films, there were only a few boxes released per film...

The list is supposed to be over the next two years, so it is possible. Of course since there are now three movies....

If all of that is true somebody at GW has huge insider knowledge of the 3 hobbit movies. At first I thought this impossible but Wikipedia seems to say the LoTR releases coincided with the movies as well so there would be some advance knowledge involved. Mind you if that list is real there is some stuff in there which is breaking their own fluff on the other races, but that makes it only more likely as GW would break it, a prankster fan would stick to the current fluff.

Now they will do this movie as true to the original book as they did LoTR.  lol

Just to highlight my impressions when first watching LotR:
F**k You Mr Jackson, what's Liz doing on this horse? This should have been Glorfindel. And where in the book was as elven St Martins Day parade to Kelms deep? Did I miss something?

GW might be commercial and evil, but I really liked them for inclunding Glorfindel's stats in the rules, so you can stay closer to the book than Mr. Chainsaw Moviemaker.

The comments about finecast are getting to be a load of BS. The quality is at a good standard now, and there are next to no miscasts (which will happen every once in a while, no matter the line).

I'd be surprised if this was the real list. And overall I'm not concerned too much with GW doing the miiatures of the Hobbit, as I think their LotR line is pretty cool (with just a few exceptions to it). I was rather unhappy with some of the film designs and even though the production movies of the Hobbit are really nice, I'm not convinced by the dwarf design - that bunch looks like they are the dwavish village idiots rather than the leading aristocrats of Durin's people. Thorin almost without a beard? Wtf? Ok, maybe it's true - eye-candy for the ladies.

As to changes from book to movie: it is a well-known fact that you have to change things from one medium to another. In the books you can re-read about Glorfindel as often as you like. That's hardly possible in a movie. "Wait! I didn't get it. Who's that Glorfindel dude? Can you reroll that scene?"  In movie logic you can't just introduce a character like Glorfindel as all high and mighty and than just have him not appear again after 5 minutes. That just doesn't work. I really consider myself a Tolkien fan and even a purist of sorts. But the movie is just not the book. Can't be and will never be and never tried to be. Watching the 4 hours bonus material really gives a cool insight in the writing of the script of the movie. And it does make a lot of sense, even if I, too, was not too happy about the elves in Helm's Deep. But from a dramatic point of view it makes perfect sense.

No doubt they will be releasing stuff to try and focus on the big historical battles which are hardly mentioned in the book, as opposed to showing any interest in a skirmish scale adventure game to recreate possible alternative encounters by the small group of adventurers.

I can't really get my self in hate GW mode today, so I'm just going to go with 'cool that there'll be another line of J.R.R. Ewing-based miniatures by the hands of the Perry's (presumably)'
