Bamberg 9th March 1632

Enjoy the photos another 95 of these are on the website to feast your eyes on.

cheers and keep wargaming the hobby...malc the manc.

The arrival of the Catholic forces seemed to undermine Horns confidence
in the Bamberg position. He positioned his newly raised Solms infantry in
the inadequate earthworks with cavalry screen out front with the majority
of his cavalry waiting on the left flank.Horn planned to let his new recruits
take the brunt of the attack while placing his more experienced forces on the
safer side of the river and sending his baggage and the majority to the rear.

Earthworks were not fully constructed and are classed as soft cover

Objective - For the Catholics to cross the bridge and capture the town
the Swedish force was to defend.

We started with Father Tilly rules, but these for a large game were slow but very good in other areas of the rules, so we addapted the movement system and initiative dice and the cards and mixed them up with Pike and shot rules, one or two things needed tweaking here and there, but we got the feel of the period in the end and it became bloody...father tilly rules are good but for large games like we have at Grimsby it just don't work and the pike and shot rules are good but one or two rules like movement is just plain stupid and i don't think the rules were looked into deep enough, not knocking them though as they are great for evening battles and you get a outcome by the end of the night.
Overall i like to call it wargame research to reach what we wanted by using two sets of differant rules.

Looks really great.
Beautiful big regiments formed into beautiful big armies. :-*
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

I definitely recommend swinging by the Grimsby club's website to have a look at the full gallery (95 pics !). You can also view and download the photos in greater size and resolution there.
