Mordheim Kislevites--non-GW Version
« on: August 17, 2012, 02:52:42 PM »
Since the GW Kislevites have become practically impossible to cheaply acquire, I decided to make my own using proxy minis from other companies.

I posted these pics on my blog a while back, but I am finally sharing some of them here.  I have more done, but this is what I've got photographed so far.

That old Grenadier fantasy artillery master will make a perfect magician!

I am mixing Foundry, Old Glory, Grenadier, Mageknight, and whatever else I can find.

Thanks for looking!

Nice work and a cracking idea!
 :-*

I did something similar but using old '80's Citadel stuff.
They were not 'cheap' but still cost less than buying the official range.

I also think it is better to have an original look to your warband rather than a 'vanilla' flavour.

Thanks!  I picked that Mageknight bear up at Origins last year for around $1.00.  Not a bad mini, and fits better as a trained attack bear than the standard GW one, though I cannot deny the GW one is an awesome model.

I think I actually prefer these models to the 'official' ones, they have far more character about them!

cheers

The GW mordheim kislev bear is awful IMO.  The actual kislevites themselves are pretty stellar though.

Great job on those so far, looks nice!

Nice work. I managed to make a kislevite warband with a mix of GW and non GW. I got a bunch of kislevites cheap. I managed to pick up Boris' Bear for $6. Boris had his legs hacked off the top though. The rest were Privateer Press Kador miniatures. The miniatures you have are great. Privateer Press may be a little large compared to these guys though if you considered going that way (might be worth taking a look though)

They look great, the cossack with the pistol is a fantastic model.

I looked into doing this a while ago and found a few useful minis in the Old Glory ranges:

Maybe this might help.

Nice work, there.  Who makes the fellow with the two pistols.

I have been working on Kislev figures, mainly some GW one we have picked up cheap at cons or wherever, and Privateer Press figures (some of the ?Khador? faction, I think).

One way to augment them moderately cheaply is to pick up the GW Empire Archers box that came out a year or so back - plastic multi-part models that include several distinctly Kislevite heads.

Good luck with the project - and please continue to share any good non-GW Kislevite models that you find.

Foundry Cossack range, perfect for Kislevites.

The TAG poles and cossacks are fantastic too, between them and the Foundry range, you can really go to town on Kislevites. Old Glory cossack range has a few gems as well and seems to be one of their better ranges.
