Blasters & Bulkheads v. 2.0
« on: January 14, 2013, 04:07:27 PM »
Hey, folks!  Joe D. and I have been talking about getting B&B onto Lulu so folks can get proper, POD copies of the rules. Heck, I want one!

Anyway, the way we laid out and designed the old rules 2 years ago does not allow us to just upload it to Lulu as is.  We need to make significant changes in the layout files. So we decided that, given what we've learned in the intervening two years, we might as well just do new layout better suited to POD.

Right now I am going back through the manuscript and tidying stuff up, and where possible, adding refinements to the rules. We're going to add new art (replacing the miniature photography), a few new races, and some refined rules elements. I learned a bit writing Goalsystem Delves, so some of that (especially the maneuvers) will make its way into B&B 1.5.

I am not changing the damage system over to damage rolls; I prefer the DN system for B&B and other more "shooty" games.

Anyway, if you have B&B and noticed any significant errata or had a suggestion, let me know here or by PM and I will consider it for incorporation.

Thanks!

Great to hear, if we have already purchased the game previously, will we be able to get an updated PDF?

It depends on how much we end up changing. I am leaning toward this. I'm mainly doing this for POD, but the idea would be it would also be suitable for PDF sales too, so it will replace the older version.  The layout will be spartan and inherently printer friendly, so this should not be an issue.

At the very least I'll do a free "what's new" doc, but I am still thinking about how to handle this.

I've had a couple of games of B&B and though I like the goal system core, I don't think the squads work very well as there seems to be a huge jump from squads to characters and it'd be great to be able to field 'guard' squads that are a little better and tougher than other quads and a wider variety of levels of characters.
Just a couple of thoughts.

Have you tried using the Hardened Veterans option for henchmen?  That makes them much more lethal.

I can't say I have to be honest, I hadn't even noticed it. Oh, well ignore my comments then.

No problem! Also, for minor characters, are you wanting single characters with say, only 1 - 3 starting Vitality vs. 6?

Pretty much, though perhaps a full range between 1 and perhaps up to 8 for super-tough characters (Vader - I'm looking at you).

Folks, we're starting the layout on what has now become B&B 2.0, i.e., 2nd edition. I ended up adding a lot of new and revised material, so I had to call it a 2nd ed.  Speak now or forever hold your peace on any suggested changes!

Thanks!

Just thought I would share Rich Yanizeski's awesome cover for B&B 2nd ed. Here goes!

We hope to see this released by end of March, but we'll see...
