New Victoria, Mars. 30th August 1889. The offices of the Illustrated London News Overseas Reporting Team.

Massacre at Quaa-Rak-Taa!

Dear Reader,

We are shocked to report that yesterday evening a highly disciplined attack was launched by the skyborne Martians on the Belborough Railway Company Headquarters at Quaa-Rak-Taa. The Martians overwhelmed the depot killing most of the employees, nearly 100 people in total, mainly all British subjects (with the exception of a few Chinese labourers).

So far the only survivors seem to be Jones 'The steam' an engine driver who escaped in one of the locomotives 'Bessie' along with two railway workers Messrs Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock.

From the report given by the survivors the attack was preceeded by a huge sandstorm which the Martians used as cover to get close to the depot. Once the sandstorm lifted the Martians charged in, quickly slaughtering the helpless staff. Confusion reigned and in the panic many of the staff tried to board the locomotive as it slowly chugged out of the station, most were killed as they stood on the platform.(Apparently leaves on the track delayed the departure)

The Naval Brigade company who guarded the camp were seen making a last stand with bayonets fixed huddled around their brave Ensign Mr Jenson Benson. We are unaware at this moment if they escaped the carnage.

More alarmingly Miss Fanny Fitznizentite daughter of one of Lord Belborough's company directors is also missing. She was last seen taking an early eveing stroll with her servant up onto a nearby messa.

We hope and prey for her safe return!

What to expect next? The Killing of more innocent British subjects?  The citizens of New Victoria demand Justice!

What steps will the Martian Protectorate and her Majesty's (Gaud bless 'Er) government take to stamp out this insurrection?

Your Humber servant,

Archibald Harris-Hampton

Photo report soon. :)

Jones 'The Steam' in an engine called Bessie? I note the difficulties of telegraphically filing copy through the ether, but surely the Illustrated London News' team of fact-checkers would have picked up on the fact that the locomotive in question was actually named Ivor.

Errors aside, I commend the brave reporting and accompanying photographic plates.

 lol

Not correct my friend. You will have to try harder. Bessie is correct in this context. The engine driver being called Jones is not the link.

You need to look for more clues as to the connection between Bessie and the owner of the railway company Lord Belborough. ???

Also whilst we are on the subject who are Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock ???

 :D

Hmm. I appear to have been out-pedanted.

This may require a different tactic...

... come on Mars!  lol

Very nice, looking forward to the pics.

Thorbjørn and I bought some copies of the T&T rules, so we should be able to try them out in the near future too. Perhabs going for some Darkest Africa engagement first though.

Keep up the good job :)

Even I know Chas and Dave and I'm northern  :D

Anyway, on to some pictures...

The initial set up. The red 'glow' is the after effects of the sandstorm (not really, I have a naff camera, but it looks good  lol )

The rail encampment

The first Martian moves 'The head spikes of the Naakatan'

The view from the barricades, civilians finally realise the danger and rush for the train

A break in the sandstorm aftermath and the situation does not look good for the humans

A concentrated rush has the Martians in amongst the humans killing left, right and centre

The blue humans try to defend the camp but are slowly taken out one by one

A few Martian casualties causes them to back of and regroup but another sandstorm is on the way. Enough damage has been done though...

The train and it's inhabitants makes a very slow getaway

This of course is only a taster of what is to come...

WAR ON MARS!!!

cheers

James
