Planet of the Apes Project - suggestions please.
« on: August 25, 2012, 04:27:05 PM »
I'm seriously considering modelling some 'damned' apes in 28mm from the 1968 film and have just received some Simian heads from Crooked Dice which fit the bill nicely.

I've been thinking about using either some WWII U.S. or German infantry for the torsos, arms and legs with some Milliput applied to simulate the padded jackets.

Has anybody modelled these guys before? if so, some hints and tips would come in very handy.

I used the older Crooked Dice Minion Bodies, of course it was before they did their own heads (LMFAO Karls going to kill me for that comment he, he, he)

I even did a "not" Taylor -

We hope to follow up with some Simian Soldier bodies to fit the heads in early 2013.

Nice Taylor and ape.

I wonder if the heads will fit the plastic warzone bauhaus bodies. If so, I'll need to place a large order.

Very nice! The Taylor fig works great. Great use of the bearded doctor head!

I like the 'not Taylor' figure, it works really well and news of the new Simian bodies is great.

I've been eyeing the plastic Wargames Factory German Infantry for conversion purposes and just have to figure out if the Crooked Dice heads will be a good match.  Their Zombie sprues even have an overalled figure which might suit for a later figure.

Back to the research.

A LOT of my personal "side" projects have been put to one side - mostly because of work commitments and family things - I'm a full time carer for my 92 year old Dad - and recently have started doing commission painting for other people, initially to earn extra money for Toys - but it "balooned" quite quickly, I plan on down sizing heavily after the current projects are finished as with looking after Dad, running two households, and "work" I've been doing too much and its actually affected my health (I know it makes me sound weak, but I've been doing 12 to 16 hour days recently, and I soooooo knackered).

Of course, now Crooked are doing bodies - this is easier to go back to now ;)

Crossover Miniatures has goons with seperate heads and the ape heads from CD fits very nicely. Someone on the Superhero board did an Ape Furry (making fun of Nick Fury) using the leader with a mini SMG....the minions don't have rifles, they are MG.

I know Secrets of the Third Reich (west wind) uses the Seperate Head system, so using some military guys there would make head swaps easy.

Well, Eureka do a range of Boiler Suited Apes which might be of use... Also some rather nice Apes with guns under the Cliffhanger range by Monolith Designs.

@Van-Helsing:

Wow, love both your Ape and your Taylor... Good work Sir! :-*

I seem to recall that the Cliffhanger figures are 40mm.
