D&D Wrath of Ashardalon, the longest dungeon crawl
« on: September 06, 2012, 11:21:22 AM »
We had a really bizarre D&D Wrath of Ashardalon experience last time we played. Not only did we almost get wiped out near the entrance by a ridiculous amount of bad luck and crazy traps, but the circumstances and events just led to this endless dungeon where the chamber tile that we were after totally eluded us as we were forced to draw an equal amount of tiles from the bottom as we did from the top of the tile deck. At one point it looked as if we would draw the end location by going from the bottom...

I agree to what you wrote in your blog: these D&D board games very easily end in a massacre of the heroes. All of the random encounters seem to be absolute killers.

As to Legends of Drizzt: I think they tuned down the difficulty a bit. The three times I've played the game were fun, interesting and enjoyable.

I honestly think that a limit of 1 event per "turn" would be enough, in which case the ability to "buy away" events could be scrapped. At the moment it feels like an overwhelming abount of stuff happening all the time, which has put off some of the gamers in my group from this game.

I look forward to trying out Descent 2nd edition this weekend, I have high hopes that it will be a bit more in depth and cover adventure/character stuff as well as the tactical gaming. I kinda miss that in D&D:WoA.
