15mm Ansar High Command - any ideas?
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:55:14 PM »
I'm looking for something impressive but fear that there is nothing to be had!

Not sure about impressive.
Have you looked at Peter Pig?
The Dervish range includes command figurers, but not generals or personalities: http://www.peterpig.co.uk/range22.htm
The ancient range includes camel mounted Tuareg generals, but no picture:

The fantasy range has quite a good looking Vizier, but he's on foot:

although I suppose you could use the flying carpet :~}

I seem to remember seeing a Lawrence of Arabia figure somewhere (but cannot remember where, and it may have been a conversion)
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

I think it is Essex that has the guy sitting on a "flying carpet" but might be a bit too India for you.  Maybe if you give us a better idea of what you want to accomplish, we can give you some better ideas.  Do you want mounted or foot, is it a big flag you want, musicians - a bit of mini-diorama?  More information (to a point) will yield more assistance.

Mmm, Ok, thanks. I have the Minifigs and Essex command and I have seen the Peter Pig and Two Dragons equivalents. I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for and I know that the emirs distinguished themselves by their simplicity as much as by their finery. I'm probably guilty of being taken in by the marketing but Perry's camel mounted emir with attendants seems to shout command - where is the 15mm equivalent? I suspect that I'm just going to have to get the knife, file and putty out. The flying carpet is however an option I hadn't considered.

Essex do an Egyptian officer on a camel - it is a really nice figure that I will (eventually) add to some/all of my infantry units.
If you are prepared to do some cutting and puttying I'm sure he would look fine. I may even have one I could spare.

Is that the Egyptian Camel Corps command? If so, I've had a quick search for a picture but to no avail. Unfortunately, these days it would cost you more to post it than it would for me to buy it - but thanks very much for the thought! I'll look out for it next time I'm at a show.
