Looking for a suitable Belit mini
« on: September 14, 2012, 01:27:06 PM »
Good day, as the title suggests Im looking for a suitable mini to portray Belit for my small Conan project. Currently Im using Hasslfree's not-Conan and Red Sonja, as well as the Frothers miniature Sasha as Valeria, so she would need to be of a similar size.

The original story she appears in claims shes from Shem, which Im led to believe is Howards version of the Middle-East/Asia, though shes described as ivory white. However as Im using Red Sonja and none of the artwork Belit has ever appeared in takes her race/skin type into account, Im not sure I should.

So anyhow, anyone got any good ideas?

Shem isn't Asia - at least not the Far East or South East (not IMO) - it's possibly steppes and city states.  I don't think the Shemites are like Mongols though. I think a Hollywood Persian look is probably good. Maybe Palmyra (only less desert.) Howard probably described her as "Ivory" to distinguish her from her "Ebony" crew. I mean, he was hardly very particular about the descriptive terms he used and I'm sure if she was actually an adventuress she would surely have a tan.

Many Conan illustrators don't have a problem mixing pantaloons and trews with loincloths and chainmail bikinis. You could take a look at some of the pirate offerings and maybe find one not so 17th century? On one of the Pathfinder figures from Reaper?

Did they live together in per-fect har-mon-y?

How about this from Reaper?

Back from the dead, almost.

Shem covers most of what we now think of as 'Muslim' and 'Arab' lands in Ancient and Medieval times, from Mesopotamia / Assyria (ziggurats, black beards...) to Mauritania through Arabia and Tuareg Sahara (except Egypt which appears as Stygia).
Raven-black hair, but note that some Kabyle have a rather fair skin.
In the comics Belit wears a pleasant but rather unconvincing fur bikini. The suggested Reaper mini looks more 'historically' accurate.
One of Freebooter Amazons may also fit:

while Raging Heroes Blood Vestals offer a 'plate armor' alternative to Red Sonja's chainmall bikini (and a suitably exotic hairdress; OK, heavy boots are perhaps not recommended on boat, but...):

Yes on both of them Belit is a hard one as we see her in our own eyes, perhaps a female pirate mini or african queen foundrys jane would work, also the great mini from the greek range or one of the cave girls off copplestone

that is a great female miniature

the female leader would work also

the girl with the sword i consider one of steve salhas best minis ever

Guild of Harmony Vanys is not without suitably exotic charm, her weapon credible for boarding actions and not oversized, her 'Dark Elf' nature not too obvious; and as any good pirate she sports a skull :)

She does however have vampire teeth.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

I know Dark Sword minis are of variable size, and the bases don't look at all 'nautical', but 2 of their last releases seem to have some Belit potential:
The Female Pirate, of course

But also the Barbarian Queen

This one reminds me of Raging Heroes Blood Vestals, but also of Saint-Exmin, the 'Space Valkyrie' of 'Battle beyond the stars'. :D

Yes!  Battle Beyond the Stars!  One of my favorite movies of all time. Thanks for the tip.  I can get her and add some wings to her headress.

One of the Raging Heroes *Fantasy* Blood Vestals with embryonic bra would be closer to the mark (no 'skirt', high heel boots)
