Foundry at least has uniform Judges, unlike the Mongoose ones.

Thoughts on the figures please (the price is ridiculous so lets take that as read)

Not wanting to get on a bashwagon detour, but I consider Foundry's pricing (4 pounds a figure) slightly better for value than Mongoose/Warlord's 5 pounds (both are rather expensive, but then what does one expect regarding licensed ranges).

Personally, I consider the Foundry range the better in overall terms. Having painted figures from both, the Foundry ones have overall sharper sculpts, all being excellently cast, whereas the older Mongoose figures were rather soft in execution; newer Mongoose seems to be sharper, but suffers from some awkward anatomy at times. I intend to get the Angel Family/Gang myself at some point and will most likely go for the Foundry option.

IMHO, the major point in favour of the Mongoose range is that it is far more comprehensive, the Foundry range seems to be more character-focused and aimed at collectors rather than for gaming purposes. If you are content with using the most prominent pro- and antagonists, it will serve admirably, but personally I find Foundry's lack of perps disturbing.

I'll probably use ex-Grenadier future warriors figures for perps (as I have a number of those already painted). They work together quite well, albeit a bit smaller than Foundry.

That is one of the main issues with the range, though - the Foundry figures are large. It's something of a boon, IMHO, as the prices seem less awful for a 32mm figure than for a "traditional" 28mm, but it can lead to issues if you wish/need to proxy other designs from the stories. The Foundry judges are not that bad, but Johnny Alpha and Wulf Sternhammer, for instance, are huge figures. Now, given that they appear tall (and lanky in Johnny's case) in the comics, that is okay, but it means you will be hard-pressed to find matching figures outside of the Foundry range.

Thank you for that - much appreciated.

In which case, i'll speak to Foundry and see if they can put a pack together for me of Dredd and the Angel Gang. I'll look to see if they do a model of Dredd on his Lawmaster.

They're only the figures i really want so size compatibility is not an issue.

Cheers

East Riding Miniatures gangers in slicks match the Foundry Judges quite nicely. I had them and the police troops for Citi-Def.

Good to hear that the Mongoose figures are compatible with Foundry especially as Mongoose look like they're bringing out a couple of Judges on Lawmasters  :D

I would say go with Mongoose also, dabble in Foundry or GW as you see fit to bolster and add variety. The problem is Foundry isn't adding anything to their line and it is getting out of date, GW's while several figs like the Ape Gangsters look great people are just asking stupid amounts of cash for the figs...at least here in the US.

I've found both foundry and mongoose work well.

Just don't try the old citadel range  lol

I like the citadel stuff as stand alone.  Classic cartoonesque sculpts that look so nice with decent pj's. Too many overpriced minis out there though.  I got lots! Almost all painted now as well.

Thanks fellas,

People are wanting silly money on Fleabay for single GW figures. I can see the appeal but i'm not THAT interested when there are alternatives

Just a few of the tonnes of JD minis Dr F's been painting for me.

Just one more large box to send off then that's all the citadel and foundru ones done.

Then onto the mongoose kickstarter.  ;)

ME TOO ME TOO

Citadel are the best range in terms of true to the day, as they came from the day I guess, and the range of perps and muties is by far the best!

flogged all my judges to WK, but the heroclix judges were sculpted by the same guy who did most of the Foundry judges, so scale well and match uniform wise - I converted them on a couple of mongoose lawmasters...

I had an odd experience with Mongoose last week.

I bit the bullet and ordered 3 figs I was after direct from Mongoose (Dekker and the two cadets), as Dekker has not not been released by Warlord yet and I didn't want to wait.

When the figs arrived I was very disappointed with the quality of the casts, they are soft and missing detail, so I wrote to Mongoose and told them as much asking for them to either send me replacements or a refund.

The next day I recieved a full refund from Mongoose.

Fair enough you say, I have three figs, (albeit poorly cast), for free. but there are two things that bother me.

Firstly, I still want to get hold of decent casts of these figs, are the casts from Warlord going to be any better?

Secondly, the way Mongoose refunded the cash without even arguing the point, or offering replacement casts suggests that they knew the casts are rubish but are selling them anyway.

On the one hand, top marks for the prompt refund but on the other, what are they doing selling substandard casts for 5 pound a pop in the first place???

Does the failure to offer replacement casts mean thay can't produce any better?

I'd appreciate feedback from others who have these figs on the quality of the casts.

Based on this experience, I'd avoid buying anything else from the Mongoose line until I could be sure the quality was up to standard.
