Elizabethan Irish Wars - AAR Report.
« on: September 23, 2012, 10:22:11 AM »
After several weeks of painting I finally have enough to kick off the Elizabethan Irish Wars project.
The scenario follows on from the beaching of La Rata a Spanish Carrack after the destruction of the Armada.

Spanish Infantry land in Ireland seeking supplies to repair their ships, whilst the Irish Earls seize the opportunity of capturing Spanish noblemen for Ransom.

The full scenario and AAR can be found here.

Excellent - and inspiring.

I was wondering what to do with this interesting historical period. Miniatures of different periods can be mixed in this context, that's a good idea.

Interesting small fields with wattle fences / low walls too.

It has plenty of potential and has been under gamed for years.

Well, this is an interesting project to see!
A bit embarrassing really, the rest of Europe was dressing their finest in plate armour.
And there were the Irish elites looking like something out of the Dark Ages.  lol

You have done very nice work on the figures and the terrain.
Do keep us posted on this!

Pretty cool
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

A great period, one I have gamed using a variation of Chronopia rules. I have a largish Irish force I have managed to not sell off.

These guys are rather nice sculpts and fit in well

Your blog said you used modified LOTR rules for your game. Care to share the mod?

A couple of free days over the Christmas period and the first batch of English are complete.
Whilst uniforms were not typical in this period, I wanted to give the suitable feel to go up against the Spanish and Irish already done.

Happy new year all.

Is that the old foundry Elizabethans mixed in with the foundry swashbucklers? They don't look too bad together do they? Might have to rethink getting some!

The officer with steel buckler and pistol looks like a Warlord figure from their Thirty Years War  swordsman pack.  The others certainly do look like Foundry Swashbucklers and their old Elizabethan range (e.g. the arquebusier in the burgonet).
