Hasslefree's Capt Isseki
« on: January 14, 2013, 12:06:35 AM »
Thought I would share my paint job on Hasslefrees Capt Isseki here. Due to a slight cockup on my part the gun holding hand is not the one from hasslefree. Basically whilst I was glueing and sticking I dropped the original hand, and bugger me could I find it. So the hand is one from my bits box which seems to fit okay, not ideal but not bad.

I decided to paint the trousers in a Vertical Tiger Stripe pattern which I think turned out great.

That is very nice indeed!

The trousers have come out great, and I think the coat is damned impressive, too.

While I'm not keen on the colours and pattern on the trousers, neither on the fig or IRL (de gustibus etc...), you did execute it well.
+1 on the coat. very lifelike.
I don't get why you painted his hair almost the same colour as his coat. Be it lighter or darker, I think it would make him stand out more.

just my 2c.

The miniature does seem to have an odd mix of colors that almost do not work. But it is that 'edge' that makes it stand out. However, the execution is topnotch even the gunhand is not the one intended.

Thanks all,

RAegarding the hair, I painted it blondeish because that's roughly what colour Major Batou's hair is in Ghost in the Shell (or white depending on which version you watch) same with the coat, but I might go back and lighten his hair more to make it look less like a colour swab from the coat  :D.

I painted the trousers tiger strip pretty much just because I wanted to paint that pattern.

I actually agree regarding the model, I don't like the pose I always think he looks like he's putting excessive effort into running and the up tilted head just dosen't work foe me personally.

Lovely paint job. The pose is bit awkward but he's running and eyeing upwards towards possible hostiles, while (literally) pulling his head in (maybe bad guys are about to hose him with some lead).

Beautiful paint on a very awkward looking miniature. The pose is bizarre... almost like he's skipping or something.

The sheepskin jacket looks real enough to wear!

Maybe the pose is asking for something a little bit less vertical, more lean towards, giving a dynamic run impression. Whatever it's the case, the painting and details are truly great.

Yeah, he's supposed to be running forward.

Nearly every paintjob I've seen of this guy has him nearly upright, but he's supposed to be 40 to 45 degrees from upright.

Awesome painting and basing...on a quick look without the base, I thought it looked like an actual person. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks all, and to be fair I've now based him on a 2p coin and having posed him further forwards he looks much more natural.
