It Came From The Desert
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:22:31 PM »
At the forthcoming BLAM I will be running a post-apoc based game "It Came From The Desert".  I don't want to give too much away about it yet, but it will be set in a desert (Mad Max-ish) wasteland, with small groups of survivors competing or collaborating for survival.

As it was a rather last minute decision to run a game I intend using mostly miniatures and terrain I already have built & painted.  It has however given me the impetus to finish off a few items that have been sat on a shelf for far too long.

First off is the Ainsty derelict school bus: http://ainstycastings.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/480/osCsid/70955481bf6f14bb98de5e44617bb922

(I bought this when the late Mike Brooks was running Ainsty and started painting it years ago....)

This year is a shame for me. Missed to much good thing. No chance to come to the BLAM.
Some Questions to you:

1. Do you use the 7TV-Rules for your Game?
2. After the BLAM some Photos for me (and the rest of the LAF)?

I remember the Amiga game "It Came From The Desert."

No spoilers, but is this going where I think it's going?

No, I'm using carefully researched/borrowed/made up bespoke rules, barely filling a page of A4 (in a largish font)  :D
Hopefully there will be lots of photos of all the BLAM games here on the forum in the aftermath.

Funnily enough I played that on the Amiga too.  It's possible some elements might be incoporated... ;)

Nice bus  :)

Thanks.  All a bit last minute I'm afraid.  Full-on playtesting tomorrow evening, so I hope it does play alright... ::)

Next is the first of 2 emplacements from Snapdragon, now sadly OOP:

Great detailed castings.  I painted them over a white undercoat instead of my more usual black.  Nearly all the painting was then with washes and carefull drybrushing.

I wish I had bought the Snapdragon stuff when I had the chance.  Brilliant product.  Too bad it has not passed on to other hands.

That snapdragon stuff is gorgeous. I'm surprised they never sold the company or anything?

Nice paintjobs paul. Someday I will strip some of my Ainsty scenery and get cracking on the Post-Apoc stuff again!

Great looking terrain pieces. They should come in handy in a great many games. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work, what colours have you used for the sand?

I don't think my answer will help you to much...... lots of OOP paints
I used a white spray undercoat then a wash of Colour Party No63 (I don't have any left & not sure if it is still available?).  When completely dry a drybrush with GW Bleached Bone, followed by a lighter drybrush with some white added.

I have also recently used GW Tau Sept with a drop of GW Gryphonne Sepia to replace CP63, in an attempt to colour match previously painted items.

Next is a tower.  I built it some time ago to match the Snapdragon items.  Just needed to touch up the paintwork a bit.

The next Snapdragon emplacement is nearly finished and I'm scratchuilding a compound entrance.  Not helped by trying to cut the tip of a finger off with a brand new scalpel blade (at least it was a clean cut!)
