It's a lot like portion size of meal these days.  It just gets bigger and bigger.  The scale thing bothers me a little as well, and I suppose that is why all my human figures are from coppelstone and Pulp figures.  I like flat bases so that the miniature blends into the scenery which creates a lot of issues in terms of height.

That being said, with monsters you can kind of get a way with different styles.  Even in the coppelstone ranges, 2 characters can be quite different.  I have a Two Gun Cohen figure who is practically a dwarf compared to Sam Spade from the sleuth pack.  The one thing I really like about Uncle Mike's figures(besides the fact that his company is Canadian, and the game is awesome) is the fact that you can use miniatures from other companies.   I hate games that force you to buy their miniatures - yuck no variety.

It's too bad about those RAFM miniatures.  I remember playing with them in the 90s.  Awesome sculpts but pretty small.  I bet if you put them on a taller base no one will be able to tell.  A good paint job/ basing goes a long way!

Well, I have a nice bonus coming in December, and so I'll be buying up a lot more of the Uncle Mike's monsters, but I think I'm going to stick with Copplestone and Pulp, and I'm going to try Black Cat too.  I'd love to get more variety, which is why I bought so many, but man am I disappointed in the RAFM line's diminutive size.

I just wish I'd have asked you fine folks beforehand! :)

There is definitely scale creep in miniatures.  By the time I'm an old man 45mm miniatures will be the standard!

There is some great variety in terms of Cthulhu miniatures.  I found the problem with the RAFM ones are the packs.  I would like more packs with 3 different characters, as opposed to 1 character in three poses.

I agree with the packs situation...but in some cases I'm OK. For instance, in the picture I posted of mine, I filed the Conan O'Brien hair off of one pose so it looks like a very balding man. I'm going to use a razor to carve some forehead wrinkles in him, too, to age him a little.

The kneeling version will have a green stuff bag put on his head so he can be a "captured agent".

That said, it's a little weenie to put three of the same model into a pack.

Here's my RAFM'ies:

I'd be happy to trade for some of your RAFM figures.  I rather like the line and it's scale.  All I have right now are some antique automobiles, perfect for the 28mm scale.  In a few months I should be able to scare up some Horrorclix or metal miniatures.  Is there anything you are looking for in particular?

Hey Superflynt I have a few painted threshold agents I'd be willing to trade for as well.  Ive got a well painted Doc Savage, the Shadow, and a big game hunter.  Let me know if you are interested.

Unfortunately I need the minis painted, I don't paint my own.  The ones I have for trade were painted by the Mighty Stan Johansen!  Ill take a pic of mine.

I was just reading through this today. Usefull scale comparison pics. Cheers.

The whole scale debate reminded me of a father Ted moment.

Sorry. I'm in a funny mood.  :D

LMAO, it's been a long time since I saw Father Ted. I grew up on Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served and the like...our brethren across the pond understood humor (or humour) better 25 years ago than most Americans do today it seems. I can't even watch the tripe that passes as a Sitcom here. Ugh.

I found this today, very interesting, although not as useful as I'd hoped since they're not all lined up...

The "Scale-O-Matic" really falls into the whole "Small or Far Away?" commentary. Without a consistent ruler on all of the figures, it's hard to judge.

I picked up the UMW "bonus" figure of HP Lovecraft a year or so ago (Trumpeter Salute 2011, I think?) and have found up mounting him on a base as a statue, as he's about a quarter-inch (real inches, that is) taller than any other figure I own, and crazy skinny, in a really stiff pose. So he's now a statue on a plinth to add cover and colour to a town square!

The UMW monsters - I have the werewolf and the missing links - are great and scale is obviously less important, but the OP is right, a lot of the humans don't scale gracefully. Lovecraft was even taller and skinnier than most, though, hence the statue.

Really must finish that statue, it's sat unpainted on a shelf above my painting bench for ages now...

Now that's brilliant. I would've never thought of that, but it makes so much sense. I may have to buy a second one!

I've been rebasing so many of my figures of late to match up with one another that now I really see what some of the commentary has centered on: you can base things to look a little better. What I did was take all of my Mike's stuff and put them on standard 30mm/40mm/50mm recessed bases (I don't like the look of washers) and I simply put some of the more diminutive guys on pennies on top of the slotta bases. This gave the illusion that the minis were on a hill once it was flocked. This also evened up the head height a bit.

The problem is still there, but it's less noticeable. I just wish that the RAFM stuff wasn't so damned small. Copplestone is pretty good, although Mike's stuff is such that the limbs of his humans are really thick compared to others, but I just chalk that up to the fact that Mike is a world class bodybuilder and thus everyone is "swoll up" in his mind. ;)

Just an FYI, The RAFM miniatures under the USX heading are larger than the older figures. they average around 32mm.

Really? Hmm. I'm going to have to take a look at that. I really like the quality of the RAFM models (mostly) so this is very good news!
