British post apoc future...
« on: October 28, 2012, 11:58:35 AM »
Im doing some PO figures and terrian, but want to keep it more British based as everybody elses seems to be mad Max/fallout types wwhich is definately not british!!

I was thinking more along the lines of Surviors, day of the triffids (Original and remakes), Quatermass, Doomwatch. Landrovers, bentleys and Mins, rather than V8 interceptors!!

Any ideas ??

Marcos :D

No ideas, but it sounds like a very cool idea.

Wait scratch that, a lot of  Artizan's Thrilling Tales line might work?

Good move, Marcus.

There's also the "Geezers! Shut It!" from Killer B Games - http://killerbgames.com/index.php?cPath=1&osCsid=dc8975b2ca60d086db071f3b048b0abb.

I don\'t know whether to be a good example or a horrible warning.

I've been doing something very similar (albeit set in a some-what ill defined late 70's/early 80's cold war era) on and off for a few years, and in more recent years a mate of mine has joined in. Although I don't like sending people off forum, I think I'd struggle to reproduce out 25 pages of musings, pictures etc...

You could try 20mm. Plenty of Cold war figures and vehicles available. Scenery is easier to find. Check out the winter of 79 blog for links and ideas.

I've had the idea for a Triffids or similar game on the back burner for the past few years.  I was thinking of an urban game as I need to use the terrain I built for Geezers.  A rural game would probably be easier with most wargamers terrain collections.

With the Geezers miniatures I already have it would be a 1970s setting.  Some of the MoFo Falklands British would do for military and Artizans Thrilling Tales range has suitable survivor types:

I have some of the Black Cat Bases plants: http://blackcatbases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=437_440&products_id=3106

Mattblackgod recently scratchbuilt some which seems a viable route to go: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=46014.0

One problem is depicting the blinded, which would need to be conversions most likely.

My thoughts depend on how modern you want to go, I think its a great idea and a fairly novel take on post apoc gaming. For example looking at various figure ranges available you could think about a late 1980's early 1990's start, which would enable you to use, for example, the Falklands war Brits from Gripping Beast's MoFo range, many of the civilian types from the various Very British Civil War ranges would be nice and useful, plus many of the Doctor Who figures perhaps, and as has been already said, the "Geezers Shut It" figures, also, there are plenty of diecast vehicles, both civilian and military from those periods around. For inspiration, there was quite a body of British "Post Apoc/Sci Fi" literature from back then, writers such as Edmund Cooper, Micheal Moorcock and the Jerry Cornelius saga to name but two.

Some nice ideas there guys, but was going to go down the path of less military more milita, less automatic weapons, more shotguns and cricket bats! for example if the zombie apoc happened tomorrow i dont know where i would get my hands on a fire arm, but a cricket bat and a bow would be easy to get hold of... ;)

My zed thread. Board is based on UK road layout. If there's something you like, feel free to use it as inspiration. It's not currently heavily themed in that respect, but when I get chance there's a load of planned little bits and pieces to finish to continue that theme.

A few pics, more in the thread.

Action shot: Shaun was regretting running out of chocolate hobnobs and drawing the short straw to go to the all night petrol station on the corner!

Cheers.
