Gigantogorillini : Largest Ape of the Prehistoric Forest
« on: October 29, 2012, 06:52:03 PM »
Last year, Copplestone had a special for their cavemen- I couldn't resist. Then I painted a group of them for the LPL, and really enjoyed painting them.

I've always liked old pulpy 'Lost Worlds' and 'Prehistoric' movies- the kind that's likely the source of a surprising number of people who actually believe humans and dinosaurs coexisted  ;D  Anyway, since then I've been collecting various 'Prehistoric Pulp' minis, with intent to create my own skirmish game, and I couldn't resist ordering this 'Arkansas Swamp Monster' from Pontoonier.. what a fun mini!

My imaginary background for this, largest of the apes, I've dubbed 'Gigantogorillini':

These, the largest of the primates, are solitary lords of the woodlands, though, secure in the safety of their great size, it is not uncommon to see them venture out into the grasslands.  Larger even than members of the Yheti tribe and Gigantopithecus tribe, these massive creatures are hard to mistake.  Perhaps the only thing preventing this species from becoming a greater dominating force is the fact that they are few in number and live solitary lives, only coming together to mate. Youths do band together, but these avoid conflict when possible.  The same can not be said for the adult males.  Nearly twice the size of females, and formidable at heights up to 4 meters and arm span even greater, they are left alone by all but the largest of the ancient predators.  Smaller creatures, even the sentient tribes hold deep respect for these giant primates, and healthy fear, for they are omnivorous.  Some tribes have even been known to worship them as gods.

I'm sure I'll post more on the project as it progresses.. it's a slow simmer project- it will take awhile to get all the factions and creatures done, and to work on the rules.

I love that giant Ape. But i have never heard of Pontonier....or something. Which is really no surprise to me and when i think of it...it is a suprise as there are still small manufacturers out there that i don't know of and must discover. Excellent.

Laughing Ferret does it again! You have a real knack for picking up interesting figures like this. Your ape EotD faction is a perfect example of this where figures from about 5 ranges effortlessly blend together. It's always a pleasure.
