A Pair of Crossleys
« on: November 05, 2012, 12:18:23 AM »
I got around to painting up a pair of Matchbox Crossley Tenders. I am quite happy with the little effort needed to achieve a fair result.

My blog has a thorough description of products and techniques used. http://thekingsdepart.blogspot.com/2012/11/matchbox-crossley-tenders.html

Those are quite spiffy!
If you don't mind my asking, what scale would they be?

Thanks,
Tom

I like these quite a lot. Great work there fella.
I fancy one of those trucks now.

The sickle in the fruitful field;
The sword he sung a song of death,
But could not make the sickle yield."

Not sure how clean you want those to be, but maybe a touch of weathering would add a little something extra?

Thanks for the positive comments everyone!  :)

Tom Reed,
They are 1/43 scale, which is on the large end of the 28mm companion sizing. This makes them sound less enticing than they actually are; they are truly great companions to the Musketeer Miniatures IWI figures.

Empress just released a line of generic interwar drivers that are marketed as being suitable for the Models of Yesteryear line of vehicles, so I am by no means alone in my praise for the Crossleys.  ;)

FramFramson,
I was wanting a cartoonish, clean sort of look from the start. They have a nice soft glow in person which by no means looks lifelike, but will surely "POP" on the gametable. I am refraining from dark colors and dirty appearances as I work through the project. In fact, my figures will be free of black as a separation color, even between the largest of detail shifts.

David  :)

Fair enough! I could see you'd gone for very clean style (this is especially apparent in the tires), so I wasn't sure how intentional that was. If the rest of your figures match, then yes, the vehicles should fit!

Looking great. I've got a small fleet of them myself and need to get some of the Empress drivers to crew them soon.

Very nice. I am working on a 1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost but don't have a spray gun......hopefully I will pick the right colour in a spray can!
