Painting Black horses

Anyone got any tips for painting Black horses, ie whats the best base coat, and best colours for highlighting/shading?

Anyone got any tips for painting Black horses, ie whats the best base coat, and best colours for highlighting/shading?

Either use ultra-dark brown (vandyke or vallejo german camoflage dark brown plus black), shade black, highlight with vandyke.

Or black and drybrush with black and panzer grey mixes till you're happy.

Probably someone will have better ideas but this works for me.

Does anyone have any ideas as regards the tails and hooves?

Always dark hooves below dark fur or cream coloured hooves below light fur, socks, stockings, boots etc.
