Borodino
« on: December 01, 2012, 11:09:59 AM »
I was fortunate enough to take part in a weekend re-fight of this huge battle recently.  It was fought over four 12' x 6' tables by twelve players using Republic to Empire rules.  My own command covered Borodino village itself defended by Guard Jagers and a mass of Cossack cavalry.  The initial French assault failed and a swift advance by the Cossacks ensured that a general French advance was checked, for the first day at least.

Elsewhere, the Great Redoubt was assaulted and captured by the French.

But on table 3 the fleches held firm

and on table 4 Poles and Russians fought to control Utitsa village

On the following day Borodino fell but the French advanced no further as the arrival of French and Russian cavalry reserves cancelled each other out.

On table 2 the French pushed on past the Redoubt and forced most of the Russians off the table capturing Kutuzov in the process.
Elsewhere, the fleches continued to defy the French and Utitsa village defied the Poles

Although the Russians had retained 10 out of 15 objectives the umpires declared the game a draw, at least the French umpire did.

Excellent pix.
I've seen others elsewhere and though theyve shown some excellent figures, the wonderful buildings were missing.

Bravo.
