My Fantasy town WIP (many pics)
« on: December 05, 2012, 10:41:15 AM »
Hi everybody.

Inspired by the AMAZING scenery work some of our members have shown, I decided to jump into the wagon and build something.

As my *first miniature love* has always been fantasy, I've been working in a medieval fantasy town for the last days, and want to share my progress with you.

First a pic of my little town so far

And some building views

My temple

With working doors

And some 28mm miniatures for scale

A gazebo

Blacksmith

Alchemist's house

And two houses that still need the roof done.

The pics don't show this (yet) but every level is fully playable, as you can remove the roof and separate each floor so you can move your miniatures inside.

I want to finish these buildings and a couple more (tavern, shop, bakery) before I start painting.

What do you think?

Any advices about the "usual" medieval colors for the buildings?

Oh, and if you have seen my previous works, as you may suspect (and expect) all my buildings fold flat for easy storage

More (and I hope better) pics as the work moves on.

Thanks for looking.

I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Inspiring, particularly as they are flat packs.  Looking forward to seeing these painted up.

Great set of buildings, should look amazing when they're all finished.
Medieval buildings where generally white washed in my knowledge, or stone might be rendered and white washed.

Thanks for your comments.

Medieval buildings where generally white washed in my knowledge, or stone might be rendered and white washed.

Most of the pics and drawings I've seen show white or soft cream walls.

But I don't know if this was such a general practice.

I mean... Nobody painted their houses differently?

Color paint was so rare-scarce-expensive that the only option was a lime hand?

Please bear in mind I'm from Mexico and so I have little experience about "european fantasy architecture" except for reference images from the www and books.

I'm sure some people here at LAF know a lot more on the subject.

Thank you.

Love it, the Gazebo remins me of the KODT strip, is it a 12 hit dice monster too?

In my town, it'll be a 20 hit dice monster  ;D  ;)

@ ninja:
No, this isn't my first scenery attempt, just my current "fantasy town" project.

Can't wait to see these painted up, there is a lot of great detail there (and ingenious fold down mechanism)

Cool stuff

When i say white wash, it's not a perfect white, so you pictures speak true.
I think people did paint their buildings, but only really the interiours. From my knowledge, i've never seen a painted medieval exteriour, but i might be wrong. Anyway, it's fantasy, so you can invent things or change stuff.

Thank you for your kind words Vonkluge.

Yes, I do have about a dozen idols already casted. If you're interested we may arrange somenthing by PM.

That's exactly what I was thinking about: I pretend this to be a "fairy tale medieval town" so the walls and roofs can be very odd colored.

Anyhow, I'll try to keep the colors a little "toned down" so the building can be used in a "non fantasy" game too.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

I'm already applying the first coats of paint to the buildings so I'll post some new pics ASAP.

Best wishes.

I love these and this is a fantastic solution to one of my problems (space).

Are the walls just made out of cereal boxes or is is more of an "industrial" kind of cardboard / craftboard used?

I would love to see some work in progress shots assuming you are planning on more buildings, or a tutorial, please.

Also does anyone in the UK know where you can get foam that thin?
