Agreed...though this seems to be common with warlord.
Stale historical ranges with few useful releases
A dreadful set of Dredd figures with some pathetic childish sculpts (judges in underwear)
And now these, poorly done rip offs from mass effect.

Not to derail but sjs's in dresses and underwear is absolutely correct (2000ad Dredd canon)for inclusion in Cal's retinue.

Anyway back to this, hoovering up failing projects seems to be a theme with Warlord. Wonder if they sponsor Dog's Trust? ;)

Ah gee... you guys have turned my red tower of excitement into a fire hydrant... I was actually all juiced about this game, but apparently I was being a naive fanboy (fanboy of what exactly I'm not sure).

Well, it's always been a tough crow for BtGoA here :`

I'm somewhat optimistic about the Algoryn. Not keen on the bare heads but if they come with those helmets shown on the Command team I might even get some -- assuming they reasonably match the renders of course.

I backed Antares.

Yes, it was very vague and had very little to show up front. The game or background didn't really sound that interesting to me, but I figured I'd at least get a bunch of usable generic sci-fi miniatures for a reasonable price. Which is pretty much the reasoning I've used to back all the mini games I've backed.

If you ask me, the reason why Antares failed was quite simply that they asked for too much.

Maybe it was a realistic goal, but they should have done their homework on how succesful kickstarters are run.

They did collect a little over 100,000 quid IIRC. Why wasn't that enough? E.g. Empire of the Dead collected a similar amount and produced a bunch of minis and a hardback rulebook for it.

Assuming their budget calculations were correct, they should have split the project into smaller pieces and started with a more modest goal. Or if that was really really not feasible, then they should have sought other financing as a backup at the very least.

The whole project has seemed a little bit lacking from the start to me, everything is very generic or lack lustre, it all has a feeling of something you have seen before, and the backstory is just not engaging.

I wonder if they would have been better stumping up some cash for a licence and produced a miniatures game based on an already existing sci-fi universe such as Firefly.

Thought the first concepts were really promising...like a Mass Effect-type game. But then I saw silly ape men and the stupid rockskin men and I lost any interest. Just another 40K clone IMO...

I thought, and I'm willing to be lynched for this, that Rick Priestly had begun to rely on the hype about himself, from the old citadel grognards and the... new warlord grognards. Rather than novel or interesting ideas.

Were there any novel or interesting ideas in the original Rogue Trader rulebook? It seems to me it's just a collection of D&D monsters transposed to sci-fi and a hodgepodge of things Rick Priestly liked from comics and movies.

Kinda like Gates of Antares if you substitute video games for D&D... >:D

The original idea in 40K was orcs in space (along with the other WH races)
Other than that it was 2000AD and Heavy Metal with miniatures.

That was always my take on it to.  I think sometimes people forget and act as if this was a fully fleshed out universe from day one instead of a 30-odd-year evolution.
