7th Voyage Board for Salute
« on: January 08, 2013, 11:41:25 PM »
You may have heard me wittering on about our new stop-motion inspired mythic fantasy skirmish rule set- 7th Voyage.

The rules will be out at Salute and packed full of Argonaut and Sinbad style action adventures.

So to demo it at the show, I asked David Marshall of TM Terrain to construct me 2x2' 7th Voyage board based on my initial sketch:

And here's as things progressed.

The Cyclops cave has a removable roof secured with magnets.

And now with some paint on. David is great with his landscaping colours:

The ruined statue on top is just an aquarium scenic but sort of works, unlikely that it will be in the final game.

There is just the temple to build for the plateau.mWe have been inspired by Majorsmith's cracking set of Greek ruins, so will likely copy those!! Hope you don't mind!? Andym's Arabian Market will also fit neatly on top of there too, to lend an Sinbad feel to other games.

And apologies if some of the pictures appear upside down on iPhones of iPads it's linked to them originally being taken on an iPad I think! They look fine on a laptop of desktop. Honest.
Something Crooked this way comes...

That's a lovely looking board. I like the statue. May have to look for one myself. I'm looking forward to these rules; Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans etc were a massive influence on me as a kid, certainly helped my overriding love of the fantasy genre above all others.

In regards to the rules... I'll be curious to see how you handle the Hydra. I've not seen a system yet to really capture the essence of this tricky beast on the tabletop!

Beautiful work! How were the cliff faces done? It has a similar appearance to cork bark but the yellow colour confounds me somewhat. I am considering building a table soon with lots of cliff face and cork bark seems like it is pretty hard to get a hold of here.

I assumed it was a plaster cast from a rubber rock face mold.

Oooh now this is going to be good. Can't wait to see the temples!

Now that is very nice indeed. Great landscape colours. Yet another reason to go to Salute!

Ta all!

Marcus - you might be thinking of Bronze Age Minis?

Exploding Youth - The cliffs are plaster casts taken from a number of Woodland Scenics rock molds. David at TM days he uses them all the time and are very good. There is lots of detail on them so take washes and dry brushes very well. The plaster is dental plaster so drys very hard and picks up the detail.

Christian - The Hydra is always a pain; nice in legend, but difficult on the tabletop. 7th Voyage uses the standard Crooked Dice rules (used in 7TV and 7ombieTV) so as well has having fairly tough physical stats it also has, amongst others, the Regeneration special effect and is able to make two attacks while only spending one Action. So still formidable, but not too rules heavy.
