1920s Atlas Scans
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:03:57 AM »
Via a Google Plus contact, a fantastic set of large, good quality scans from "The People's Atlas", 1920, from the London Geographical Institute.

http://www.hipkiss.org/cgi-bin/maps.pl?book=London%20Geographical%20Institute%20-%20The%20Peoples%20Atlas

The UK, Europe and the World all covered, and the maps have interesting extra details like travel times, transportation infrastructure, and other bits and pieces in the margins. Lots of WW1 info too.

Also undoubtedly of interest to the Cthulhu folks, but I'm primarily a pulp player myself...

It's a copy of my old school atlas with all the pink Imperial bits. Yayy.

Same site also has a 1922 Bartholomews Pocket Atlas and Guide to London - http://www.hipkiss.org/cgi-bin/maps.pl?book=Bartholomews%20-%20Pocket%20Atlas%20and%20Guide%20to%20London

The author of that site points out in his introduction that all his maps are pre-1923, so he considers them entirely Public Domain. Go do whatever you want with them, in other words. Nice!

Superb!

What a wonderful find, Wirelizard.
The London maps are especially useful to me, so the links are very much appreciated.

Those are not half bad.

Between this thread and another, I have got stuck acquiring '20s and '30s maps and atlases.
At least I have not gotten stuck on globes!

Yes, I acquired from a shop a globe (1930's I believe) with (among other things) the country of "Manchuko" on it (Let's hear it for puppet states!)

Fun to compare it to current globes.

Gracias,

Glenn
