Hi

If you look at the `Island` build thread you will see a green metal blob in one of the pics, thats was my compressor made from an old fridge motor many years ago i now have a proper one but either way spraying the fur is the cheapest and simplest method.Only ever use water based paint anything else clogs the fur.I buy  2.5ltr coloured emulsion from do it yourself shops this is great for a base colour (dont ever loose the shade reference off the tin) then a smaller 1ltr tin wil do some highlighting  and smaller mixes from your paint stand will do local fine detail.

This way of painting is quite weak(warning never let your cloth get wet) as you have to add water to thin the paint before spraying dilute to about 50/50 but it depends on your airbrush and commpressor running pressure. Also i have only ever used my old Badger airbrush this type:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Badger-Airbrush-spray-gun-set/dp/B000B8ICFQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1359047767&sr=8-2
Paint is pulled up the tube to the nozzle tip by the air passing over it from the pen,in other words you never have to clean out the pen as it is really only an air hose, the jars need cleaning only, great for a terrain airbrush(wouldnt use my best one for such heavy work and the cup wouldnt hold much paint anyhow).

Ok well have a read and ask if im not making it clear enough or in the future if i can be of any help i will pass on what i know.
Cheers Alan

Thanks. Be a long while before I can try making large terrain boards again, but I'll keep this in mind for when I do.

Many teddy bears died to bring us this spectacle.

Less the Battle of Towton than the Battle of Toytown?

Ahem, I'll get my coat...

A seriously wonderful set-up. Interesting that you went with flour for temporary snow – looking at such a great finished (green) board) I'd have been terrified of mucking it up by adding its winter dressing!

Thats my daughter before anybody else ends up risking a `bad` joke ::)

Bacause its fur anything you sprinkle on it gets soaked up so by volume we had to go cheap and you cant get cheaper than one bag of flour, the club wasnt convinced and worried about damp or wet turning it into a gluey mess so i had to cover a single board in flour and leave it in my garage for a week. :-I

It worked fine and after the shows we bagged them up and once home all boards had to be given a good thump while still in the bag and then vacumed to remove the last residue of flour, they then became the club gaming boards and went off to there new home.

Cheers Alan

And she is a fine, upright girl.  :D

Superb, great to see a fairly local (to me) batlefield built so nicely, a great wintery look too, love the river edges.  :D Great looking units too  8)

As a new forum member, I just want to pay my respects here.  Between Cpt. Blood's vivid WotR retinues and your magnificent game table here - I and my gaming friends are inspired to go to new levels with our collective effort.

We thought we were pretty high-end (see my buddy's blog below) but seeing this work here is a kind of shock and awe.  It's generated a kind of new energy for terrain and periods.

Who knows, maybe we'll be posting something of our own here later this year.  And we'll point back to this thread.

And that's what it's all about, right?

Just a note, we game in Jay's garage, which has been converted into a wood-paneled pub, dubbed "The Feisty Wench", which is not too shabby.
With goodwill to all and malice towards none...

As a matter of fact, CB, we're meeting for lunch and a pint today to hatch some plans.   ;)
