6th June 1944 East of the Orne river

Game at the clubhouse using Battleground WWII skirmish rules.

GERMAN STUATION
One platoon plus MMG billeted in the farm, they have been informed of the British Parachutists landings and been tasked with reacting to this by standing too and defending the most important position/terrain objective (there decision)on the table.

BRITISH SITUATION
All sections have landed in the wrong place after there gliders were scatterd by an unregisterd flak battery. Four sections marching onto the table on random entry points but on the far half of the map.Standing orders if lost, link up with as many units as possible and in the short term take and hold any immediate terrain feature(there decision) on the table.

THE MAP
The roads run from left to right across the top quarter of the map and from bottom right passing the farm up to top left with the crossroads behind the crashed Horsa and the wood.

GERMAN POSITIONS
The German players decided to set up the MMG and one section in ambush in the hedge line this side of the crashed Horsa and the rest of the platoon in the farm.

BRITISH POSITIONS
First section marched straight up the road towards the crossroads with second one off road heading towards the field with the Horsa.

The third and fourth sections moved through the bocage on the far side of the crossroads.

These two sections had decide to recce the farm and advanced (all be it out of contact with each other)in that direction.

The first section using the road secured the crossroads, the second section on discovering the crashed Horsa sent a squad to investigate.

This triggerd the german ambush.

At the same time the fourth section made its way through the orchard advancing on the farm but came under effective fire.

Without mutual support from the third section (still in a cautious advance).

The fourth section took casualties and had to pull back.

The second section squad was pinned in the open field but with support from there other squad and the section at the crossroads  both giving flanking fire the Germans in the hedge started to take casualties and became pinned.

At this stage the game finished and the British was given the win for identifying the crossroads as the prime objective and for taking and holding it.

Its an old game, first outing for the trees and hedges but one i thought worth re showing.
Cheers AL

Just tin foil with cotton, laid out on a card backer.
