[WH40K] Iyanden Craftworld army
« on: January 27, 2013, 04:24:38 PM »
After upgrading my Space Wolves Army I decided to continue with my Eldar army that I painted in 1994.

The WH40K v2 Iyanden Craftworld

First here is the Farseer, Adihmar Pāth'Ahmob. I just repainted the base.

I mixed several guardians from different small squads and added a heavy weapon team.

Here are the Swooping Hawks with new bases

Then I have to work on Aspect Warriors, Banshees and Dire Avengers.

Finally I managed to finish the new base of my Wraithlord.

looking good. i think that we are about due a serious revival of nineties paint schemes in 40k. realistic as current schemes are, they are very drab and have lost a lot of the kitsch-cool elements. if it weren't too expensive to start a new army these days, i'd love to have a classic looking Space Ork army.

I really love seeing this kind of armies, full of flavour and still active :).

Having gone three 4-5 Eldar armies (only race I ever played) i applaud this.  Heck, most of the models you've shown were still being sold up until a couple years ago (easily the MOST neglected race during my 10-12 years playing 40K).

Love the stuff.  Even the Eldar Dreadnought...oops...I mean Wraithlord.  ;D

Elbows is right; it's a race that seldom gets many updates (and those that it does get are not always very good - see the 3rd/4th edition Aspect Warrior resculpts of Striking Scorpions for example!), and still has a fair number of very old models (Edrad, some of the Warlocks, Warp Spiders, Wraithguard and Jetbikes to name the ones I can think of). Until recently, Orks were in a similar position too I think.

It's odd though; GW are quite open about the fact that Marines get the love because they sell stupidly well, but I suspect that if they pushed the other races more (with lots of new models, real rules balancing, cool background, etc), then they'd see the distribution of who plays what straightened out quite a lot. But as the imagery, artwork, narrative, and focus is from an almost exclusively Imperial point of view, it does help to strongly skew the perspective a lot towards humans and away from aliens.

Anyway, you've done a lovely job there, and I see you are expanding the army a bit as well; will you be adding any Wraithguard as well?

Wraithguard for the Iyanden craftworld  is an obvious option but I want first to paint / rebase all the minis that I already have.

I just finished the Howling Banshees as I added 5 new old models to the unit.

I used Warforge bases for the new ones.

They look great! I do like all the old (old!) Aspect Warrior sculpts. They design and quality stand up so well, it's unbelievable.

New additions, Dark Reapers with repainted bases

And the first wing of four jetbikes. I parted the old unit of five in two wings of four bikes (with one shuriken cannon).  I also changed the bases with Warforge ones.

I continue the update with Dire Avengers. I added 5 models and I re-do the bases.

And here is the second unit on jetbikes with the last two "old" bikes  and two new ones,  one with the leader and one with a shuriken cannon.

Every now and then I need a thread like this to remind me of how cool the Eldar were/are. The Wraithlord is extremely cool, I love those old bulbous rocket pods. Any plans to include old Ghost Warriors?
