Sort of Pulp, a run at Bolt Action not set in WW2
« on: 28 January 2013, 03:50:56 PM »
We do a bit of narrative gaming here, we recently tried a few Bolt Action games, very suitable for games with 30 to 50 figures on a side.   We kept it simple, no tanks or crew served weapons.  The setting is a mash up of SCW and Pulp as I don't have WW2 in this scale, painted, yet.  I do have some early war Poles but the temperature daily high has been low 20's high teens (F, not Celsius), so they cannot be primed in my usual method.

There's more on the blog, which shows the table and set up on these entries.

Sorry for the small photos, How does one get the bigger size to show....I use Flickr to upload, if that makes a difference.

The great thing about the influx of Pulp and VBCW is that we have unwittingly created realistic proxies and alternate timelines.  Does the setting matter?  It is the game that is important......  :D

I agree!  If everybody playing enjoys the game, it's "all good."  Glad you liked it.  We had a blast.

While not a detailed system for Pulp in particular, the mechanics are roughly similar in complexity to Bob Murch's rules ( his are free and have some Pulp specific ideas) and have the advantage of being widely available in order to lure the unsuspecting gamer into the era where anything goes.   We are truly blessed to have so many options.

Howard Whitehouse's rules are wonderful with a dedicated umpire for large groups.

The .45 adventure and Pulp Alley Rules are good as well, but have a different style of play, great for character driven games from what I've gathered from some truly great AAR's posted here and on other forums.

It's a nice change of pace from my usual diet of Napoleonics.  :)

it certainly looks like a lot of fun

with Zeppelin trooppers in the SCW I don't know why there shouldn't be any in WWII, so who cares?
the Bolt Action rules are hardly depicting Platoon/Company scale fighting tactics, so......
