42mm Steve Barber samurai (8/9 update)
« on: January 30, 2013, 09:51:47 PM »
It's been a little while since I last posted, so I'll throw up a few of my samurai I had done a while back (for my blog, but never posted here.) These are 42mm samurai by Steve Barber. The range is limited, but there are still enough to throw together a couple good battle lines or a small skirmish.

I have a few more figures coming, all of which I will convert (including one, hopefully, into a Zatoichi figure.)

The only limitation with the 42mm size is finding terrain and extras to match. Though, I use the limitation as an opportunity to make my own stuff. I also hammered out some of my own weapons for these figures (including katana blades and yari ((spears)), as well as made a few custom sashimono and crests.

Here are all my armored samurai and ashigaru (and one roadside shrine.) I'll post my unarmored samurai, peasants, ninja and accessories later. I hope you enjoy!

Beautiful. Will be a treat to have a small skirmish with those.

Stunning work!
 :-*

I do not usually like that style of base.
In fact the only thing that I think it looks right on are the larger scale figures.
They are great for 40mm, though, and yours look perfect.

I have quite a few 40mm scale figures myself, mainly Hellboy related.
I am saving them for when my eyes just dont fancy 28's anymore.
That is my excuse for not getting them done, anyway, and I am sticking to it!
 ;)

Just wow! Have to wipe drool off from my keyboard  o_o

What rules are you going to use with these? Then again, I think I wouldn't dare to game with such beauties.

Since I like small, detailed skirmishing (3 to 4 fighters at most per side,) I'm using Red Sand Black Moon by Two Hour Wargames. The rules are meant for fighting fantasy gladiator duels, but the rules are also generic enough to translate to other genres.

And they're durable enough to play with :) (the weapons have all been replaced with hammered brass rod as well, so no worries about bending spears or breaking off blades.)

I've added a couple more figures to my collection. These are heavily converted from existing figures.

And finally, here's my Zatoichi conversion:
That's my whole 42mm samurai collection.
