Already have the BFI Kurosawa Samurai collection and Kagemusha on my shelf. Looks like they're going to get a few friends in the near future. Ta!

BTW, I was in Poundland today, and saw they were selling copies of a Zero Mostel film: Mastermind.  What's that like?  o_o

yes The Twilight Samurai is cool, and packs with The Hidden Blade, and Love and Honor.
Another helpful trilogy could be the one about Miyamoto Musashi, as a 60s film is a bit more colorful than modern films

also you can find references in art, for instance the portraits from Hiroshige could inspire you some patterns

That reminds me that I need to find a copy of love and honour, I have twilight samurai and the hidden blade but somehow never got around to watching love and honour, if it's half as good as the other two it would be worth it.

also forgot to mention:

Has anyone seen the remastered samurai films on Blu-ray? The DVD versions were really old and gnarly looking.

Also it's not color film but if you're just looking for good samurai cinema I recommend the Sword of Doom. My absolute favorite all-time samurai movie!
