Steampunk is going mainstream*
« on: January 28, 2013, 01:59:42 PM »
You may play with toy soldiers and your family may not understand ..... just tell them that you're a trend setter. lol

Let's hope this all means that we get some new toys to play with.  :)

Steampunk's been a (I believe still somewhat minor) tread for a while now (the article says 2010 which I would assume is about right). But steampunk being trendy doesn't really help make miniature wargaming trendy, unless it's when you dress in funny quasi-Victorian self-made clothes while gaming :P

...'unless it's when you dress in funny quasi-Victorian self-made clothes while gaming :P '

Which has been happening more and more in my sightings, though the gaming is more oft of role variety.

Still, the original post was suggest a possible subterfuge, not an absolutely accuracy.  ;)

I guess my question would be: Is Steampunk bigger than Goth(ic) yet? Van Helsing through Werewolf: The Beast Among Us suggests more of an amalgamation...

LXG and recent Sherlock Holmes as perhaps counter examples...

Yesterday I saw smoking jackets in the fashion column of a newspaper, so you never know!  ;)
According to Discovery steampunk hitting the mainstream is just around the corner.
But I'm noticing more and more people pretending that they read Lovecraft, so I don't know what this means.

Steampunk seems like a very impractical fashion to follow, so the result could be funny.

I think we had a thread about that hereabouts too a while back but can't be bothered to look.

A real steampunk of course ever only makes his/her own clothes (or at least very heavily customizes them) so anyone who buys them prêt-à-porter is a poser 8)

Not the feeling I ever had; mothered-by-necessity, that was all I figured.

Every DIY'er I heard from seemed delighted with every pre-well-painted Nerf gun or pre-geared lapel piece they could find...

Edit: That said, 'mass produced' WOULD take the edge off of it!
