Rules for French Foreign Legion in Africa – suggestions?
« on: February 14, 2013, 01:07:54 PM »
Hi!

I an searching for some rules for the heroic era of the FFL in Africa.
Yes, the Beau Geste one!

Let apart the Sword and the Flame and its North African supplement, are there any other valid set of rules?
Of course I'm looking for skirmish/platoon level battles.

Thank you!!
Marco

Death in the Dark Continent and the Supplement have a list for the FFL in Africa. More Pith Helment than Beau Geste though.

As you say, S&F would work too

Triumph and Tragedy of course
Pith Helmet era is Beau Geste in French, or better Hollywood FFL is Beau Geste, whereas they also used pith helmets

Quite - most people associate Beau Geste era as Kepi/neck-cloths in North Africa ..

Yep!
Kepi, but probably the pith helmet would be more correct.

Whatever, if You like it like this  ;)
anyway, armament involved should be similar to WWI, but not the organisation.
the movies even have cavalry of the legion which did not exist before 1920.

So even Warhammer Great War should work, or Bolt Action if You leave out all heavy weapons apart from MG.

Or Legends of the Old West for that matter.
Gaming FFL Beau Geste style is a no-brainer, no offense intended. Does not require sophisticated rules, only stamina against hordes of attacking Berbers  ;), maybe a defended fort.

Triumph and Tragedy is perfect.

Just the job for deeds of daring do and fending off hordes of Tuaregs or Berbers :)

I have to say that, to me, FFL v Dahomians is a much more interesting prospect  :)

There are a couple of other sets:

March or Die

Sons of the Desert

Played both but not in the last 15 years so cannot recall how good they are.
