Yesterday Malamute, Thunderchicken, his mate Greg and I played the first of what will hopefully be many games for the Prussian Invasion of England.
We used the GASLIGHT rules with the Battles by GASLIGHT supplement. The game wasn't balanced (the Prussians having superior armour), but since when is life fair! We had good opportunity to play through most aspects of the rules.
I must apologise for the poor quality of some of the photos, but I've included them for completeness.
A mixed force of British prepared to try and halt the advance towards the River Thames .....
..... against foward elements of the Prussian Army .....
..... whose aim was to win the battle with a combination of superior German engineering and Teutonic efficiency.
The Prussian advance was led by their steam spider.
Too late, the British commander realised that the forward barricades were unmaned and despatched a force to block the Prussian advance....
.... supported by covering fire from their lightning cannon.
Braving machinegun fire from a British steam car, the brave luftreiter swiftly advanced on the Prussian right flank and siezed the first barricade.
Despite suffering casualties, the luftreiter held their ground against a charge by the Bengal Lancers, killing several of their number including thier leader and forcing the lancers to flee.
The lancers fled, leaving the British cavalry commander Lord Flasheart to be cut down by fire from the luftreiter's machinepistols.
Meanwhile the Prussian advance through the warehouse buildings in the centre was halted when the naval brigade deployed in Steptoe's Yard.
But in an example of superior German technology, despite taking a hit from the British lightning cannon, the Prussian steam spider continued to advance on the British troops hastily deploying along an unmanned barricade. The British walker retreated up a side road, having had its gun damaged by fire from the Prussian armour.
In an attempt to stop the luftreiter outflanking the British force, the militia charged the luftreiter under cover of supporting fire from the steam car's machinegun.
Despite the loss of their leader to fire from the British steam car, the brave luftreiter once again held their ground, as the reserve sturmpionier troops prepared to assault the naval brigade and clear the Prussian centre.
A glorious Prussian victory was ensured when the steam spider overran the thin red line holding the barricade.
