Bolt Action - British vs. Germans Point Defence
« on: February 16, 2013, 10:55:54 PM »
Played a game last night ... had a blast.  Use a 4'x8' table and played down the length for a different approach.

Details on my blog (lots of pics): http://jayswargamingmadness.blogspot.com/2013/02/battle-report-2152013-bolt-action.html

Alot to like about your game.
Great terrain.
May I ask where your buildings came from?
Fine work on the stream, love it.
How do you like the Bolt Action rules?

Great looking table!

The buildings look like they come from 4ground

The stream is the pre-made GF9 one too I believe.  I have some and they're nice if they'd stop sticking together when I stack them (and subsequently botch each other when pulled apart!).

Nice game, nice report.  I like the dice rolling bucket-on-stilts you have there.

If you have 'sticky' terrain and you don't want them stuck together  :'( put a piece of paper (non colored wrappingpaper for instance) between them when in storage. The kind the have at gift shops is ideal. It is light and cheap as it is free (most of the time). When i buy something at such a shop i always take some extra wrapping materiel and now have a nice supply of the stuff. It works quite well i think.

Indeed, the buildings are from 4Ground.  Most of the terrain is from Architects of War - with the rivers being of the GF9 sort (although I plan to replace them with home made rivers).  You are correct, they do stick in storage ... I have to be careful how I stack them.  If you do use paper to separate them, use wax paper as regular paper will end up sticking to it as well and is a total pain to get off.

This was my second game of Bolt Action.  I really enjoy the rules - they are fast paced, easy to pick up and remember, and I think give a great feel for the period.  That being said, if all you play is WW2, then I could see where one might want a move involved set of rules ... but that isn't what I would be looking for ... I play lots of different periods ... and I can easily remember these rules.  The reference sheets are outstanding for the game as well.

Jay

Oh yes, and the dice bucket is actually an early prototype of a "Dice Shield" ... which is now up on kickstarter:

It is awesome ... I'd pledged at the level that gets me four of them ... one for each corner of my table :-)

Your table looks awesome! Is it custom made for miniature gaming?
