Look, Sarge, No Charts: Napoleonics Using 25mm Figures
« on: February 18, 2013, 04:48:13 PM »
Buck Surdu posted some photos to his blog of a "Look, Sarge, No Charts: Napoleonics" (aka "Fate of Battle") game Dave Wood ran at a friend's game day last Saturday.

Of particular interest regaridng this game is the use of 25mm Napoleonics, mounted for Empire, that Dave used for the LSNC: Napoleonics game by the use of sabot bases. If you've got some old 25mm Napoleonics sitting in a closet, this is a good inspiration to dust them off and use them for some LSNC: Naps games.

Looks fun, but the continued use of the rather large stat cards has always ruined big battalion  games for me like that.  Same thing ruins it for me in naval games when the ship's have a big name card or stat card as part of the base.  Bugs me.   :?

Figs look great though.

Yes, this is a matter of taste.  We find that the big pink rectangles (chart cards) scattered around the table as well as Coke cans, etc. do more to spoil the aesthetics of these games than the labels, particularly when printed on earth-tone paper.  Recognizing, however, that some people are never going to try the labels or be convinced by this argument, we've put some roster sheets on our Web page.  You can use these instead of the base labels and/or the special six-sided dice.  For the Napoleonics game, the rosters can be found here:  http://www.bucksurdu.com/Buck_Surdu/LSNC__Napoleonic.html

Yes, you can play these "no charts" games with charts.  :)  Don't let the base labels dissuade you from trying what we think are really innovative, elegant, and streamlined rules.

The various sets of rules have their own Web pages.  The top link for LSNC is http://www.bucksurdu.com/Buck_Surdu/Look,_Sarge,_No_Charts.html   Rosters are available for the other rules sets as well.

If you browse around you'll see examples of tables with the labels printed on earth-tone paper.
