Illithid, mindflayer miniatures?
« on: February 15, 2013, 03:18:14 PM »
So I am working up an adventure about a devolved ancient spacefaring race that lives in a swamp, and I have been searching for some squid headed monsters for it. I have been looking for miniatures for 2 weeks now, and cant seem to find any that will work.
So i thought I would run it past you Cthulhu fans to see what you have found.

They need to be;
1: larger than the standard 28mm man type
2: No clothes, or just rags (all the mind flayers and illithids have clothes)
3: lots of head tentacles.

If someone knows where I can get "heads" I can bash up some on deep ones bodies.

Thanks,
John

Check the puzzle-piece links under each for parts you can order separately.  I know that the head herehttp://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/bathalian/sku-down/14511#boneyard works on standard "heroic-scale" minis.

These may be a bit more fantasy focused than you may want, but I think some of them would make great analogues for Illithids/Cthuloid beasts. I don't have any but I think they are a touch taller and bulkier than your average human in the scale.

Love these three especially:

You coul try to find the D&D half illithid (thhe plastic collectable miniatures game) - I received these in a goodie bag in a convention, so they might be relatively easy to find.

Pictured with a copplestone gangster miniature for scale reference.

There are Wargames Factory squid-heads from their Greatcoat Infantry, that you then stick on other minis (I was planning a while back on making some medusae like this)

They might be relatively easy to come by...

Some more idea for heads

Ymgarl Heads form CHS

& (more human) Victoria Miniatures Cthhood heads

I don't know if they're current, but GW also did some Genestealer Feeder Tendrils heads, which I'm sure you can still pick up in 'bits' stores.

Not exactly illithid, but possibly if they were masked? Nice models, and bigger than human sized.

You probably know this, but the ones pictured were repaints. The original paintjob is passable though.
