Objective For a VSF Game
« on: February 19, 2013, 08:56:12 PM »
Gentlemen and Adventurous Ladies,

What do you think would make a suitable objective for a group of competing groups to fight to possess?

Think Downey Jr. Holmes - a piece of VSF tech that would be valuable to countries and the open market but perhaps only one part is really needed.

Also, where would one get such an item, ready to be painted and used?

Many thanks.

Some kind of Galvanic Oscilator, capable of wringing unimaginable energy from the very Luminiferous Aether itself?

I'd build it, from bits that look like Van de Graaf generator parts, such as the tines of a hairbrush, guitar string and little knobs/wheels.

Alternatively, you could ask Froggy the Great very sweetly if he's got any such things made from the insides of old VCRs that he'd be prepared to sell you.

I'd go to my local craft store and browse their selection of metal spacer beads:

And then glue a couple together, and voila!  Wouldn't even need to paint it.

Maybe a crashed Martian Cylinder. Do it in several bases and spread it out a bit on your table.

How about the corpse of an alien visitor, perhaps found frozen in a crevasse in a Norwegian glacier (shades of Alien Autopsy) - it could have arrived on Earth millenia ago.  Many alien figures are available from a wide range of companies (e.g. Reaper) that would provide the "raw material" for conversion.

Some shops currently have steampunk beads which are even better.
Might be sold as fittings for cardmakers or for sewing rather than jewellery, so you may need to ask.
Take a look at some of the bits here:

There are cheaper and better pieces available, but this was the easiest link to find.

By all means.

Thanks guys, lots of great ideas. Luckily, some searching and asking has provided a cunning plan, plus my new ruleset has plenty of suitable scenarios.

Hope to see you at Salute!

Have had some beads from these people before:

They have some copper ones that look good as pieces of VSF machinery - including a large one (30mm dia, so almost the size of a ping pong ball).

A weather control machine would make a good objective. In the wrong hands it could cause all kinds of trouble.  :)

We tend to have a temple/ruin/whatever as an objective; the stuff you're showing may be there, but we don't know.

(Okay, we know something, along with hidden dinos/lizardmen/Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal )

It's not just for pulp, you know...

I frequently have them chase the Golden Orb of Whatzit. This is a BB painted gold. The objective is to either seize it and carry it off the field, or to prevent it from being seized, depending on exactly which forces are involved.
