Citadel Travelling Players/Townsfolk
« on: February 24, 2013, 05:56:24 PM »
I've been merrily working my way through this lot recently as a commission job and really enjoyed doing them. Plenty of old school goodness and the kind of character you just don't get anymore, which is a shame. As usual I'd love to see them displayed against suitable scenery (a nice tavern scene considering the basing) but that's something I lack at the moment.

OMG!!  I cannot share your comments about quality, I think you have created silk purses from pigs ears tbh.  But what silk purses they are :-* :-* :-* the best these figures have ever looked by a long long way.

Another example of, how important the paintjob is.

A bad paintjob can ruin the best of sculpts, whereas a good paintjob can make even old, not up-to-current-standards, miniatures look good.

I'm no big fan of the pastel-style used here, preferring vibrant coulours like those painted by Capt. Blood, but there's no doubt that the paint has been applied with great skill. Good blending, and especially the faces/skin-tones stand out. The unshaved look of the beggar is some of the best I've seen applied.  :)

The thing with old models is what they lack in sculpting finesse they more than make up for in character for me. If these were put out by a sculptor today I think they'd be rather heavily criticised but even so they have that special something that perhaps comes with a dose of nostalgia. I also get a kick out of painting the less than perfect old stuff like some of the old space marine sculpts. All good fun.  :D

you've done a great job of making up for the short-falling of these figures while bringing out their character- in the hands of a lesser painter (like me) the would still look naff.

When I win the lottery, expect to hear from me. I'd like you to paint everything I own, please. :)

Beautiful work, more proof that you're the best out there right now, IMHO.

What can I say, an amazing pj as ever, Stoney! :-*

And I'm glad (I was about to write "gay", but that term is apparently not used anymore. Damn mid-school and their grammar books from the 70's!)  that you've put them up here as well. Tried to see them on the blog, but it seems to be some hosting issues when I visited. :)

Dammit, who broke my blog? Come on, own up!  lol

It seems ok now but the internet is still a mystery to me, plus I know what Webs can be like at times.  ::)

I might put a Blogger page together and link the two seeing as that should be simple, and everyone uses Blogger.
