Foundry and Coat D'Arms ACW Starter Set

Hi All,

New to 28mm ACW gaming. I was wondering what people thought of the foundry ACW starter set? I also have some Coat D'Arms starter sets but also noticed they have an ACW set. Any thoughts on that one?

the Foundry set I found really disappointing.
The CDA set I haven't tried but I have lots of other colours by them and they're fine
The CDA Horses set is fantastic.

I really liked the foundary set and got good results with it as a basic painter.

I quite like the Foundry ACW sets.

Particularly like the Rich & Drab Butternut sets.

But as with most Foundry sets I like to mix the shades together to get intermediate layers.

Both Foundry and CDA have good ACW colours in their regular ranges as well. Also try some of the CDA Triads...light grey, dark grey, blue grey, browns, tans, etc. All good.

I have a list of colours that I have gleaned from various sources which might help you and they are mostly Vallejo colours.
I will post tomorrow as at work now...........

for blue trousers, I mix Sombre grey with sky blue (1:1) add black grey & medium blue

Luftwaffe Uniform - good for Imported English cloth/uniforms (late war) jackets, trousers, kepis and some overcoats. Darken with Black, highlight with VGC Wolf Grey

Deck tan
German Cammo Beige
Medium Grey - nice dirty grey
Chocolate (pants and hats)
German cammo Medium Brown (good trouser colour!)
Buff
Desert tan
Leather Brown
Leather belt (Panzer Aces)
Dark Rust (Panzer Aces)
Beige Brown
New Wood (Panzer Aces) Good jacket base colour

Confederate uniform
Oxford Blue 40% medium Blue 30% black grey 30% add Wolf Grey VGC to highlight

Foundry Triads though I do tend to use the base colour and often lighten with VMC Pale Sand, Ivory or Pale Blue Grey:

Thanks for the replies everyone!!! I'm going to try and keep it as simple as I can for now and try the Dalimore 3 paint system.

Down in our local the foundry system has gone down very well with people, it allows quick painting while still looking good, great for games with blocks of troops you need to bang out tons of, and by simply mixing between the three shades you can still put allot more effort into officers.
