Storm...thing (40K)
« on: September 16, 2013, 04:59:58 PM »
I'm not fond of the flying 'things' GW has been releasing (but my personal opinion on that should be on the ad hoc thread, let's focus). A friend commissioned me a Space Marines flyer, but fortunately the idea was doing something different than the regular models. He provided me the base stuff, a mix of a StormRaven and a Rhino, and let me total freedom to see what would I get with the pieces. I begun with this basic shape:

Trying to make it a little more stylised than the original model and resembling a little Thunderhawk. Some additional pieces later it begun to look like this:

Once primed it wasn't so disgusting ;):

But I changed the upper cannon, it somehow was out of place.

.

Then it was just a matter of details:

I tend to paint these stupid signs in Gothic (it's WH40K!). Air Intake (Aeris Ductus)

Watch your step (Cave pedes)

That kind of stuff, you know.

(I shouldn't take these pics on the window, I had previous bad experiences with minis unwishingly becoming 'paratroopers' :'()

So that's it, a slightly different flying brick. The process can be seen over here:

That's brilliant! :D

And I really like the little detail of the gothic warning labels! The change of barrels for the cannon was dead-on in my opinion :)

I like the work that went into it...don't care too much for the final product.  It's hard to make a white paint scheme look good, and I think this missed the mark (however I assume this is painted to match something of his).  I'm also a bit lost on the idea of a "siege" style cannon on an aircraft.

The conversion, however, is top notch.

It might be to shoot down even bigger flyers?  lol Lots of things are not strictly logical in the 40K universe, anyways.  :)

Haha, you're right, the big gun looks oversized, I must agree. The whole idea was making it look like a small Thunderhawk as requested by my friend, for a Pre-Heresy World Eaters army he owns. It will be used for an upcoming local tournament, so I hope he finds it useful...

What can I say; way better than every "SM flying thing" from GW!
Good job.
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de
