WIP: Eisenkern 5-man squad...complete!
« on: 05 March 2013, 08:40:37 PM »
...and vehicle. There'll be lots of these posted over the next few weeks I'm sure - not least the nice job rwwin has done with his troopers and 'Mule' on the forum here - so I thought I'd play about with the versatility of the trooper and accessory sets and of the medium Mark has chosen (IMHO so much better than that plastic /resin stuff) and do a few conversions. The seated figures and the trooper about to board are all minor conversions and the one standing on the cargo bed (missing his 'binoculars') is basically 'out of the box' with additions from the accessories set. Shoulder guards have still to be added and the heads are loose to allow painting seperately. A few, very fine mould lines to remove then its cleaning and primer.

there's a couple more pics on the blog (apologies for the inferior quality) if you're interested http://dwartist.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/wip-eisenkern-5-man-squad.html

He's referring to the new garbage material that a lot of companies have been embracing...like Defiance Games (that new Studio McVey game I think as well etc.).  It's a crap material which doesn't take glue well, is a huge pain in the ass to work with, and generally sucks.  >:(

All hail good quality NORMAL plastic.

Ah, Dwartist beat me to it!  I've been working up a similar conversion using a Halo Warthog as a base.

Haha - trying that too - figures don't sit so well on the seats! Looking forward to seeing what you do!

Mine didn't fit with the kit legs either, the warthog seats are reclined too mcuch.  I cheated and used a pair of legs from the GW sentinel pilot.  I had bought a bunch of those bits when I bought the warthogs a few years back to make some guard conversions but never got around to it.  The GW part doesn't have the same thigh armor, but I think I can solve that with a press mold.

Did you take the warthog apart? if you do you can remove the floor of the seating area so the legs have enough room...

Yes I took it apart, but there looked like a lot of material that needed to come out (and I'm lazy) so I again cheated and just cut off the feet!  You can't see into the foot-wells on the finished model.  Here's a pic of the driver so far.

Like you I found that the base for the quad AA gun from the heavy weapon set fits very neatly into the cargo bed, but I'm kind of itching to do a guy firing an MG from a pintle mount, then I can reuse the ammo can and belt.

Sweet work. I think this looks really good but one thing is bothering me.
The trooper sitting down has his gun pointed at the trooper's chest who is climbing inside.
I know I know, it's probably the nitpick of all nitpicks but military and police units world wide teach muzzle control first and foremost.
Again, overall I think this looks great and I cant wait to see it painted.
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...
