Somewhere in the forest

--A twig snaps and a bird takes flight. A buckskin figure halts at the sound, one mocassined foot poised above the turf .  A dark head rises, his eyes narrow and he peers forward scanning the treeline. To each side his companions have stopped, not a word exhanged, standing like statues looking to right and left .

I like this. Just the kind of atmosphere that attracted me in the first place (to Last of the Mohicans).

The wind sighs softly thro the trees, a bee hums - all the sounds of the forest - directly ahead, across the river , shadows emerge and begin to  slide silently into sight .
