IL-2m from Airfix
« on: March 14, 2013, 07:16:25 PM »
I've wanted to paint up aircraft for a while, but frankly they scare me. Great thing about a dynamic set of rules like BGK, you need to paint up a wide variety of stuff. Your boundaries get pushed a bit.

I chose this kit as it is notoriously simple to build. Also notoriously inaccurate  ;D...

Extra flight-stand base for those days when you have TWO birds in the air on your side!

A good enough start, but hope to do better on the next couple of kits. Have quite a stash of aircraft to do for this project!
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

IL-2 looks good.
But here's glass cockpit, it seems better to make blue instead of black ...
And from below on the wings of the aircraft too, must be a stars.

Yup, I cheated on the stars under the wing. ;)

Wasn't liking the Airfix decals too much, so with this being a wargames model, I took a pass on the additional detail.

The canopy was an experiment; spraying the inside before masking to hide a less than ideal cockpit. I agree the black is much too stark.
If I have a reason to try this approach again I'll go with something lighter, maybe a blueish grey.

Bezzo, Blackwolf, thank you for the kind words.

Nice work! How do you  'anchor' the supports on the base. The thing the perspex rod slots into?

I've posted a flight-stand 'mini tutorial' at this LINK.
Hope it's useful.
