starting a City board...with a barn!!!!
« on: March 08, 2013, 02:57:16 PM »
Hi all,

ok I had to start somewhere!!!!

I have started painting my survivors/Zombies and I need a board to game on. I donīt have a lot of room to store my stuff at home, so my board will only be 44 inchs x 30 inchs but I will be using both sides (Plan A). One side will be a city with roads and smallish houses and the other side countryside with 2/3 possible builds.

A Manor/Farmhouse
A Barn with outhouses fences and such like.
Still thinking about a third possiblity (any ideas?????)

So I went onto the big "G" and looked for suitable Paper Models online...hhhhmmmm not alot of luck!!!

I being a stupid idiot, decided to make my own Barn in Photoshop (this is going to be fun!!!!) Plan is to make all of the sides and roof, print them out and glue/hammer/tack them to 5mm Foamboard (already ordered).

So after 4 hours this is where I am...(still wip..)

C + C always welcome

Cheers

Another alternative would be to use balsa wood and textured plastic are. A little more expensive but the results would speak for themselves. The texture work on the photoshop stuff does look good mind you.

As someone who makes a few card style buildings I have to say the texture on that is really great! Nice work so far, and good luck with your other buildings :)

Did you draw everything from scratch or use textures/images from Google (or other) and adapt them?

Deadspace1, Balsa Wood is of course a Good idea, I will wait and See how the barn Looks like When  and glued up, adding the Wood afterwards is not a Problem....

Ronanite, Thanks for the Kind words. I started Doing my Own textures, Lower brickwork and beams, but Then switched to textures I found in google (much quicker) I will Carry on with a combination of both I think.

Hat's up to you for doing your Own buildings, its not that easy I have to say, its alot of fun, but if I had to make a Whole  City I think It would Take forever.....

Remember the project was modular,  one board at a time, with all needed buildings and scenery completed with each board meant that there was always something to play on.

Cheers

Hey Commander, yeah I saw that! There is so much on my to-do list that had to sit down and replan a few things, like what to buy and when...Had a quick flash over the weekend when I found a few gift boxs (brown heavy cardboard, in sets of five). I then printed out a few textures on transparant sticky papier and hey presto I had a small city block :-)... This is only Mark 1 for play testing and such like, but its a start (again)...

The barn is slowly taking shape! I printed out a fews drafts on A3 paper and glued to heavy papier...oh my god it fits!!!! :o

Hereīs a few wip pictures, when finished they will go on 5mm foamboard.

Itīs going to be quite big, but then so are some barns in RL.
