Apologies to all for the wait.  Other sculpts and other distractions popped up over the last month, in addition to the slight scale creep that made me cut back some areas of this sculpt.* (As it is now, it's just marginally taller than EotD Sherlock Holmes, but a fair bit burlier. I hope that seems appropriate for the original influence.)  But I've been chipping away at it anyway, and I got a couple of new photos tonight before the camera's batteries died on me. And that washed out most of the detail of the abs, let alone the fiddly wee serratus I just finished shoving up under it's armpits.  Mutter.

So... yeah, there are rough parts at neck, arms and thighs, but WIP and all that.  The important bit for now, is that I think I've done all the areas that'll be awkward or impossible when I get the cape on.  That's what I'll psyche myself up for tomorrow.  Then it should largely be a matter of face, hands, and sundry details.

*And the putty not wanting to play.  I think it might have something to do with the unusual summer weather - sunny and warm.

might take me a couple of tries to get it just so, this time.

Sometimes I bleedin' well hate sculptin'.

'Owzat!

Second try was a little better.  It's not entirely spectacular (only my second single-putty-sheet cloak) or finished, but now that it's on and positioned, I can take care of that: tidying, shaving, adding, bulking, shaping.  I'll especially want to fill in some spaces under the cloak, and for that purpose I wouldn't mind notes from any sculptors and casters in the audience.

Also, abs and serratus are a little bit easier to see now. ;)  Although a lot of that detail is going to have cloth wrinkles stretched across it.

Looking good.

Speaking as a caster, there are the obvious things such as filling the areas behind the legs and torso to make them solid. If they aren't then the pressure from making the mold will push them in. On a less obvious note, bring the cloak in on the left leg, it won't effect the style/pose but as it is now with a thin gap that goes down and through, you're looking at a probable tear point for the rubber during casting. Particularly an issue if you're intending to get all the figures cast from the master mold.
So many projects..... so little time.......

I aten't dead!

I can only offer profuse apologies for the lack of progress here, and the mild excuse that July was a distracting and not-very-good month for me. But, things are quieting down again and I should be able to push on.

I've tried filling in parts of the underside of the cloak (as per Dewbakuk's instructions - ta muchly!) but most of it's a bit tricky without coming at it from underneath, i.e. through the stand. So I'm going to concentrate on building up the front detail first.

Yes, one of the ears is twice the size of the other!  It's got some magic sculp in it, and I want to make sure it's well cured and hardened before I go carving and sanding it down to match the other.

Wondering about the belt - I never really defined it in the sketch. Would something like the Slade-Wallace style be appropriate?

I like the buckle style, I still want some assorted size pouches though.
I am looking for the following Deadlands minis:  Shotgun Thug, Lost Soul, Cleaners, Railroad Workers & Feral Dead. If you have any of these minis, or if you are one, please send me a PM.

It's ok with me. I also like the idea of some pouches or small bags hanging from it too.
