Looking at the Gripping Beast site... One Box of Saxon Thegns, one box of Dark Age Warriors, rulebook and Anglo-Saxon dice all for a total of £77. That's not bad for pretty much all I'd ever really need to play Saga. Compared to a £75 Games Workshop starter set that seems really good value!

Adding this box to my existing metal collection should give me enough for two or even three SAGA armies. Excellent news; just the product I was waiting for.

Good news… and a neat idea from Gripping Beast.

P.S.: How many figures you need for a typical Saga warband/army?
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

For a basic 4pt starter warband you would need at least 25 (warlord, 2x4 elites and 2x8 warriors).  Standard army size is 6 points.  1 point of troops = 4 elites = 8 warriors = 12 levy, your warlord is free.  Most armies do not use many levy.  You could field an average 6 point army with 41 troops (1 warlord, 2x4 elites, 4x8 warriors).  It depends on the army and which kind of troops you want to use.

Also, this box looks like very good value!

From the page more details of what's in the box:

"Inside you will find parts to assemble 40 finely-detailed Dark Age Warriors. Each Warrior can be armed with a spear, but for extra flexibility the set also contains additional parts for you to make up to 8 of these warriors with swords, up to 8 with hand axes, up to 32 with slings or up to 16 with javelins. The box also contains extra parts to create horn-blowers and plastic bases for all your figures."

Sounds like a great and varied set. Wondering about the head variants (bearded Vikings, mustachioed Saxons, both?) and shields.
Been waiting for these for ages. Definitely one for the Salute shopping list.

The box art is quite vague on that, they all have long hair and facial hair but nothing specific.

When I emailed GB a while ago to see if they would do Normans they said no, but that this set would be useful.
So fingers crossed for some clean-shaven heads, with short hair!
