In which our new train shot my new Chinese figures (RCW)
« on: March 26, 2013, 12:36:22 AM »
We had our first game with both my new Chinese and our new armed train (which I found at a secondhand store for less than $10 CAD). The game was a White and Chinese defense of a small Russian hamlet on the Russia/China border. The Reds had an armed train (really just flatbed with some sandbags and a machine gun), an armoured car and bunch of infantry that really didn't want to advance. The Whites had a field gun and a machine gun. The Chinese also had a machine gun and more terrible infantry (although they ended up taking most of the Red assault, especially the train). The Whites could also call in air support, which landed a giant bomb on the train to no effect.

By the end, it was clear that the Reds would take the town. Most of their infantry was unharmed, their train was quite effective and the White gun was all but knocked out. Plus the Chinese had really had enough and just wanted to go home to China. This wasn't their fight, after all.

EDIT: I should mention that this was the first RCW outing for our new scenery mat, all 6'x9' of fully flocked, hand-made goodness.

The mat looks good as does the rest of the scenery. Do you have closer pics of the train?
Cheers,

Currently no, as they would show the shameful lack of painting for the train and sort-of shameful lack of painting for the new sandbag car. After Trumpeter Salute  in two weeks there will be plenty.

The new mat looks great.  Your nice scenics have not benefitted from your earlier mats but this really makes a difference! I always enjoy your AARs.

The rules are TooFatLardies Through the Mud & the Blood, which is nominally a WW1 "large skirmish" set of rules but they're flexible enough to take in Russian Civil War, Back of Beyond and other silliness.

The train is basically just a vehicle with one machine gun and light/medium armour. We'll be adding some train-specific movement rules, but nothing too fancy. At the convention in ten days it might also have a protected gondola with an infantry section onboard.

I made some train rules a while ago but they are designed to go with T&T.
You can have them if You like

I discovered that the train set I am using is from New Bright Toys, which still make sets (just not quite the same):

That looks like a new player in the train market. I like the freight car with the Winter Belle.

Not especially new, from what I can tell. There are trains out there from the late 90's that look similar to mine.
