Home-made Pictish Shield Decals
« on: March 24, 2013, 02:01:02 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this fits best under Medieval or Workbench, but after a bit of deliberation, it's ended up here.

I've been playing about with making my own shield decals, using InkScape and decal paper from Ebay. This was a result of the fact that I couldn't get anything off the shelf in the size I needed.

Anyway, there all the gory details of how I did it here:

And a quick look to let you see what the results are like:

Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

Interesting- where did you buy the decal paper?

Mick,

I used:

And got one sheet each of clear and white. Service was quick and the stuff seems to work well. The instructions from the supplier were pretty comprehensive and seemed to work well. I used polyurethane varnish from a rattlecan to coat the decals after printing.

Cheers,

Mitch

Well done!

Great idea about cutting out strips and pasting them to normal paper for small lots of decals!

I really must try this someday.

Garanhir - thank you!

Paul - praise from you is praise indeed, given the quality of your own output - many thanks!

Ray - give it a go. The materials cost under five quid, so it won't break the bank to have a muck about. What do you have to lose?
