A quick thought regarding mass battles
« on: March 24, 2013, 07:51:59 PM »
Has anyone considered using Black Powder for VSF mass battles, I know the tech might be awkward to transfer to the system but thought has appealed to me  :)

cheers

Why not any system?  I have always thought the usual suspects rely too much on the fact that they cover the tech and do not adequately cover larger actions in the way that a designated ruleset could.  I do not have Black Powder and am not familiar with its system so I would probably go my usual route of adapting WHFB/WHA.

in my experience BP is not focussing on the heavy hardware, so gamers might find it unrewarding for VSF or special rules could unbalance the game structure.

aren't there other rules that would fit better?

Why not Gaslight?

Why not Gaslight?

 :?

 lol

I like the idea behind the Black Powder rules system and a game of that scale wouldn't have a lot of tech, a tank two, a couple of walkers and a neff at a push.

Just idle thoughts whilst waiting for paint to dry (and not so idle thoughts about future games  >:D ).

cheers

V&S&F also works rather well for that sort of thing.  So, if I may open my own valve, does VSF FUBAR.

I second VSF Fubar - I found the V&S&F rules to have some great points, but overall to be a bit clunky.

Not sure BP would be my first choice ether. Stuggle to see how you'd get a Martian tripod in there withough quite a bit of modification...

But then, I use The Sword and the Flame!  lol

EDIT: Also, must mention Land Ironclads! Simple, but still quite fun!

I use Battles by Gaslight for my big battles. I love Black Powder and would be intrigued in trying to work on a VSF version.
Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.
