Just some more Dwarven Forge inspiration...
« on: March 28, 2013, 10:08:39 PM »
I was talked into buying some new Dwarven Forge tile sets from their kickstarter.  I've had a dungeon crawl project on the back burner for sometime now.  I dug up some pictures of my Dwarven Forge set-ups, some from an old playtest session.

I'll see if I can dig up some more.

PS: Yes, in the bottom set-up, the characters started in the Tavern, and the secret book-case door lead into the actual dungeon itself!  I really love the stuff.  One of the best investments I've made in gaming.

Wow! I really like the idea of the tavern having a dark secret. Amazing terrain! The shipping annihilates any temptation for us over the pond to get stuck into their Kickstarter, but damn it's a nice product!

 :o :o :o

That is a very impressive set-up, Elbows!

Bloody gorgeous!

I have a friend who keeps trying to inflict that bloody piss-poor game Descent on us.
If he had a set-up like that, I may be tempted.
Maybe.....

(My opinion, of course. Not trying to derail the thread).

Hahaha, I actually have Descent but have never played it.  I am using the tokens and stuff that came with it while playtesting!  lol

I'm really hoping the new line of plastic Dwarven Forge stuff is expanded.  I still occasionally look for an ebay deal to get even more Dwarven Forge stuff.  Once my Old West project is finalized, this may be next on my game design thing...I really want to crank out a good Hero-Quest-ish simple dungeon crawl.  It's too much fun!

Just gorgeous! Out of curiosity, how much (roughly) does a set up like this cost? I am jealous of all the fun you, and your friends, must be having.

Cheers,
 Damien

Great setup! I'm backing the Kickstarter at the 2-set level, so hopefully all the add-ons will double the effective number of pieces I receive. Even so, there's no way I'll be able to put together a layout as nice and varied as yours.  :o

If I'm honest...I purchased all of this stuff when I had my previous job, where I made...rather significant money.  I don't have that job any more, so I'm glad I got it while I could.  The set-ups shown are about 6-10 kits worth, depending...ranging from $80-140 a piece.  I bought mine off of ebay in bits and pieces, whenever a reasonable deal popped up.  It's probably $600-700 worth on the table.

Sounds expensive, but it's worth it.  The new plastic kits will be a great way into a similar product.  I hope they establish that line and build a lot more.  Sadly, I've only ever used this stuff 2-3 times, because I don't have any gaming buddies here locally.  I occasionally throw it all in the car and travel a couple hours to game with it though.  I'm anxious to get some minis properly painted up and get working on my game.  :)

Fantastic set up.

I could see both Indiana Jones or Lara croft having fun there too. Nice.

I am green with envy: a lovely set-up for dungeon crawls you've got there.

Inspiring and dangerous (in the sense that I've got too many projects on the boil already!) stuff.  8)

Very nice setups!  I really do like the DF stuff, although it can take a fair amount of time to set it up.

It is inspiring and dangerous to me too!  I'm working hard on my Old West stuff, but the siren call of the dungeon crawl is strong... lol
